Sephora is a visionary beauty-retail concept founded

France

Dominique
Mandonnaud in
1970. Sephora's
unique, open-sell environment features an everincreasing amount of classic and emerging brands
across a broad range of product categories including
skincare, color, fragrance, body, smilecare, and
haircare, in addition to Sephora's own private label.
Today, Sephora is not only the leading chain of
perfume and cosmetics stores in France, but also a
powerful beauty presence in countries around the
world. Owned by Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy
(LVMH), the world's leading luxury goods group,
Sephora is highly regarded as a beauty trailblazer,
thanks to its unparalleled assortment of prestige
products, unbiased service from experts, interactive
shopping environment, and innovation.
This initiative consisted of providing an assessment of
the current integrations, source and target database
objects, ETL and semantic layer lineages and then
providing prescriptive recommendations and actionable
steps to reduce the amount of information being
provisioned and improve performance of remaining
integrations to meet the necessary SLAs.
Method360 Deliverable
The Method360 team delivered an assessment of
database object utilization landscape which included:

Identifying object utilization and creating an
inventory of used objects for re-implementation

Inventoried unused objects and integrations for
decommissioning

Proposed a comprehensive list of quick win
opportunities

Proposed an actionable implementation roadmap
Business Problem
The Sephora team was struggling with provisioning
data to its analytical environment in an SLA that the
business required. Sephora’s existing landscape was
comprised of an EDW with 650+ tables, 1,300+ ETL
processes and multiple Cognos models and Analysis
Services Cubes. It was expected that much of the
data being provisioned was no longer being utilized
costing Sephora valuable resource and system time.
The goal of this initiative was to lower the total cost
of ownership of the existing analytical landscape and
meet or exceed data provisioning timelines.
