Experience
I!retired!from!teaching!in!June,!2011,!after!34!years!of!public!school!teaching!in!Ohio!and!Illinois.!I!primarily!taught!band!C!
concert,!marching,!and!jazz!C!at!the!high!school!level,!but!I!also!have!experience!teaching!high!school!choir,!electronic!
music,!and!AP!music!theory;!and!middle!school!band!and!grade!school!instrumental!music.!

I!spent!the!last!26!years!at!Hinsdale!Central!High!School!in!Hinsdale!Township!HS!District!86!as!Director!of!Bands!(22!
years),!Music!Department!Chair!(19!years),!and!Director!of!Jazz!Studies!(4!years).!!
!
For!four!years!I!was!a!technology!resource!person!for!faculty!in!the!high!school!for!one!release!period!per!day.!Later,!I!
also!served!as!Coordinator!of!Faculty!Technology!Instruction!for!four!years!in!addition!to!continuing!as!a!resource!
person.!
!
I!posted!my!first!schoolCrelated!web!site!on!the!internet!in!1994.!Since!then!I!not!only!maintained!the!external!web!site!for!
Hinsdale!Central!High!School!for!eight!years,!but!also!created!and!maintained!the!web!site!for!the!Illinois!Unit!of!the!
International!Association!of!Jazz!Educators!for!eight!years.!!

In!2007!Hinsdale!Township!High!School!District!86!made!a!decision!to!change!all!of!the!district’s!externalCfacing!web!sites!
from!Microsoft!FrontPage!to!Microsoft!SharePoint!2007.!I!was!the!technical!lead!in!charge!of!content!migration!and!
maintenance!of!the!site!for!Hinsdale!Central!at!the!time.!I!spent!approximately!ten!to!fifteen!hours!a!week!for!three!
months!in!content!migration!and!preparation!of!the!web!site!(in!addition!to!my!regular!teaching!duties)!before!the!new!
site!went!live!in!November!of!2007.!I!continued!to!maintain!that!site!until!I!retired!in!June!of!2011.!

Once!the!new!site!was!in!place,!I!was!given!the!responsibility!to!teach!those!faculty!and!staff!members!who!were!charged!
with!content!responsibilities!for!parts!of!the!site.!While!overall!responsibility!for!the!site!was!mine,!I!was!able!to!distribute!
maintenance!of!some!parts!of!the!site!to!certain!teachers!and!administrative!assistants.!To!do!this,!I!created!a!variety!of!
instructional!materials!tailored!specifically!to!their!areas!of!our!site!so!they!could!follow!the!instructions!and!maintain!
their!areas!of!the!site!easily.!

I!spent!the!summer!of!2010!in!the!employ!of!Peters!&!Associates!of!Oakbrook!Terrace,!Illinois,!writing!documentation!for!
SharePoint!sites!for!clients!and!training!clients!in!how!to!use!SharePoint.!Some!of!their!clients!were!school!districts,!and!
others!were!commercial!business!accounts.!At!Peters!I!worked!with!installations!of!SharePoint!2003,!2007,!and!2010.!I!
became!proficient!in!not!only!writing!instructional!materials!but!in!assisting!clients!with!content!migration!and!site!
maintenance!in!all!three!versions.!In!the!summer!of!2011!I!also!worked!as!an!independent!contractor!for!Peters,!teaching!
Windows!7!and!Microsoft!Office!to!several!of!their!clients.!

In!2010!District!86!made!the!decision!to!move!the!teachers’!personal!web!sites!from!the!existing!SharePoint!2003!platform!
to!SharePoint!2007!with!an!additional!layer!known!as!the!SharePoint!Learning!Management!System,!from!a!firm!known!
as!eLearningForce.!I!was!part!of!a!team!drawn!from!faculty!at!both!high!schools.!We!prepared!the!instructional!materials!
and!taught!the!classes!to!the!faculty!in!how!to!set!up!and!maintain!their!new!sites.!I!also!wrote!a!100Cpage!instructional!
stepCbyCstep!document!for!teachers!to!use!to!complete!this!work!unassisted.!

In!my!role!as!the!Coordinator!of!Faculty!Technology!Instruction,!I!chaired!the!Faculty!Technology!Team!for!four!years.!I!
served!as!the!primary!liaison!between!the!faculty!and!the!administrative!team!on!most!technologyCrelated!manners.!I!also!
served!on!two!districtClevel!committees,!one!charged!with!coordination!of!technology!initiatives!between!the!two!high!
schools!and!the!other!charged!with!establishing!district!direction!based!on!school!boardCcreated!district!goals.!This!
committee!was!composed!of!board!members,!district!administration,!administrators!from!each!high!school,!faculty!
members,!students,!and!parents.!
!
I!have!experience!teaching!faculty!members!in!groups!and!in!oneConCone!situations.!I!have!developed!curriculum!and!
written!instructional!materials!not!only!for!SharePoint!but!also!for!a!variety!of!other!faculty!technology!initiatives.!!
