The Supreme Court Historical Society & The John Marshall Foundation Invite you to attend A Celebration of The Great Chief Justice John Marshall On Wednesday, March 9, 2016 Supreme Court of the United States 6-8 PM To celebrate the 215th anniversary of John Marshall’s appointment to the Bench by President John Adams, the Supreme Court Historical Society and the John Marshall Foundation are partnering to host a lecture by Professor Jeffrey Rosen. Professor Rosen will explore the Great Chief Justice’s constitutional clashes with Thomas Jefferson and his influence on Justices ranging from the Jeffersonian Louis Brandeis to the Marshallian William Howard Taft. A reception will follow the lecture. JEFFREY ROSEN is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Constitution Center. He is also a professor of law at The George Washington University, where he has taught since 1997. He is a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, where he explores issues involving the future of technology and the Constitution. He is the author of several books including The Supreme Court: The Personalities and Rivalries that Defined America; The Most Democratic Branch: How the Courts Serve America; The Naked Crowd: Reclaiming Security and Freedom in an Anxious Age; and The Unwanted Gaze: The Destruction of Privacy in America. His most recent book, as co-editor, is Constitution 3.0: Freedom and Technological Change. His new book, Louis D. Brandeis: American Prophet, will be published in June; a book on William Howard Taft is forthcoming. Professor Rosen is a graduate of Harvard College, summa cum laude; Oxford University, where he was a Marshall Scholar; and Yale Law School.
