To act upon academic decisions in a timely manner.

To maintain their own records of academic progress, including documentation of approved exceptions to
stated program requirements.

To seek additional or supplemental advice from other university personnel as needed or recommended.

should discuss you plans
and options with BOTH
a Biology Advisor AND
an Education Major
Advisor (Jim Beard)there are special
requirements in
Education
 Starting your 2nd-3rd year
you will be taking the
Education Block of
classes
 The shaded areas on the
Bingos sheet are the
required classes needed
for Transfer to Purdue
 The transfer courses
require about 3 years to
complete since you need
to finish pre-requisites
prior to enrolling into
some of the upper level
courses- especially CHM
533 and BIOL 537 and one
year of Calculus
 The entire Bingo sheet
reflects courses needed to
complete a Biology degree
Manchester University School
of Pharmacy
Prerequisites somewhat
different than for Purdue
(i.e., only one semester of
Calculus, ….)
 This Transfer Program
requires the shaded classes
for transfer (2 ½ - 3 years to
complete)
 CHM 533 (taken after
Organic Chm) is required
and either BIOL 220 (or
BIOL 437)(Microbiology) or
BIOL 537 (Immunology) are
also required
Example of 4 Year Plan
 If you Have taken your placement tests and placed in
the proper English and Math classes (ENG W 131, and
MA 229) then the following (next slide) 4 year plan
will already be in place for you on MyBluePrint
 If you do not have these placements or you have taken
Dual Credit of AP classes, then your 4 Year Plan needs
to be adjusted- this adjustment will be done during
the Fall semester of your first term at IPFW.

4 Year Plan for All Students
 This is required by the State Legislature
 If you make a 4 year plan and you follow that plan, the
department must make a course available to you to
graduate- if the required course is FULL, or is NOT
OFFERED, in the semester that your 4 year plan states
then you are eligible for a free class if the department
cannot accommodate you.

If you deviate from this plan, for whatever reason, then this free
class DOES NOT apply
 During the Fall semester of your Freshman year the
Biology Department will be offering a date(s) in
which Advisors will help you make a 4 year plan for
yourself. Please look for announcements
 This plan will be part of MyBluePrint
Enrollment and MyBluePrint
 You need to Login to your “My.IPFW” account
 Need your USER NAME and PASSWORD
 Do you all know how to do this???? If not then you
will have to go to ITS in Kettler Hall prior to being able
to register today
 Once you Login the page will look like the next slide

 MyBluePrint will allow you to follow your Progress Towards
Degree status and to see what classes you still need to take
 You should be able to find all your transfer credits (if you do
not see credits you think should be there then talk with your
advisor about how to get those into MyBluePrint) and AP
credits (you need to show proof of your scores) and Dual
Credit courses

Support Resources for Students
 If you find that you are in trouble in any specific class you
should:



Discuss your problems with the Instructor to find out if there is
any supplemental instruction or tutoring available
Discuss with Instructor any “tricks” for studying that you might
employ (look over exam and find out where you did not study
enough or where you might not have understood material)
Discuss your options for changing to “AUDIT” or “Drop” or
“Withdrawal”-- there are specific dates for these so be aware of
these dates and policies—
 ASK SOMEONE HOW THIS MIGHT AFFECT YOUR
FINANCIAL AID
 TALK WITH ADVISOR
What if I have chosen Pre-??? for
my major and I find that I am not
doing as well in class as I need to…..
 Discuss options with your advisor
 Should I change majors?
 Should I change directions within my same major?



What are other options that I can go into?
If I receive a grade of “C” will that ruin my chances of
getting into Graduate School?
What can I do to improve my GPA?
 Drop or withdraw or audit class?
 Retake class?
