a
For students transferring into Biochemistry from another college or department, BCHM 100 is not required.
b
Except in unusual circumstances BCHM 498 or 499H (research) is required to fulfill the advanced lab experience requirement.
Permission from the Option Representative (Ogas) is required to substitute BCHM 572.
c
MA 223 plus MA 224 equal MA 161. MA 165 and MA 166 equal MA 161 and MA 162, respectively. STAT 503 is preferred. STAT 511
is accepted. Lower level STAT courses are not accepted.
d
CHM 111 plus 112 and 116 may substitute for CHM 115 and 116, but only one of the three CHM 112 credits may be used to fulfill
graduation requirements.
e
The sequences of PHYS 172 (or 152) plus Phys 272 (or 241) may substitute for PHYS 220 plus 221. (PHYS 172/272 is calculus-based
for engineering students, 220/221 is algebra-based).
f
AGR 101 is only required for students entering at the first semester freshman level.
g
ECON 210, 251, or 252 may substitute. Plans of study may include AGEC 217 or ECON 210, but not both.
h
A minimum of six credits of a foreign language must be earned to be included in a plan of study to meet Humanities or International
Understanding requirements. If only three credits of a foreign language are earned, they may be used in a plan of study as an
elective. Students who earn six or more departmental credits by performance on a language placement test are not required to
complete a higher level course to use the credits in a College of Agriculture plan of study. [Policy change adopted by Agricultural
Faculty – April 18, 2007]. Students participating in a study abroad experience can use the credits earned to satisfy the
International Understanding requirement, regardless of the courses in which the credit is earned. See the list of acceptable
International Understanding courses at http://www.agriculture.purdue.edu/oap/majorsminors/internationalunderstanding.asp.
i
Students who start college on or after August 2006 must complete a minimum of 3 credits of Multicultural Awareness. Please place an
“M” beside the course being used to meet this requirement. These courses deal with U.S. diversity and are different from
International Understanding courses. See the list of Multicultural Awareness courses at
http://www.agriculture.purdue.edu/oap/majorsminors/multiculturalawareness.asp.
j
Students who earn an “A” or “B” in ENGL 108 are exempt from one credit of the Communications and total graduation requirements.
Those who do not earn an “A” or “B” in ENGL 108 must complete six credits of advanced ENGL or COM. Pre-med students are
recommended to take an English Literature or advanced writing course to meet the advanced ENGL requirement.
k
Science electives must be at the 200+ level. No more than 6 undergraduate research electives are allowed in this category, but
additional research credits will count as unrestricted electives. Additional Math courses may count as science electives. BIOL
270/271 replaced 231/232 beginning Fall 2008, and dropped to 4 credits from 5. BIOL 230 can be used in place of 270/271, but
270/271 is strongly preferred. The lab, 271, can be taken with 230. For pre-med students, BIOL 396 (Pre-medical Seminar, 0
credits) is strongly recommended; BIOL 221, 301 and 302 are recommended electives.
l
No more than 6 credits of Liberal Arts may be at the 100 level. At least 3 credits must be at the 300+ level. Students are encouraged to
build some depth in one area of the Liberal Arts. Pre-med students are recommended to take courses in the behavioral sciences
(psychology, sociology, cultural anthropology).
*** A total of 132 credits are required for graduation.
The following courses are not applicable as credit for graduation: CHM 333; MA 111, 137, 138, 139, 152, 153, 154, 159, 220;
PHYS 149; STAT 113; and all General Studies Courses except G S 490A. Credits earned in one of the following courses: MA
152 or MA 153 or MA 154 or MA 159, may be used as an unrestricted elective in College of Agriculture undergraduate plans of
study, but may not be used as a Mathematics and Sciences elective. [Policy change adopted by Agricultural Faculty – December
6, 2007]
****
REMEMBER - 32 credits at the 300 level or above must be taken at Purdue
