FRENCH 2
The number of French 2 units covered each year varies a little, according to the abilities of the class.
Generally we cover 8 units.
Unit 1 Les Fetes
Unit Goal
SWBAT express in oral and written form French holidays using time, dates, regular verbs and the
irregular verbs “avoir”, “faire”, and “aller”.
Unit Assessment
SWBAT apply the review vocabulary, grammar and new cultural knowledge of francophone holidays into
creating a calendar of their birthday month in French which will be presented orally in French to the
class.
Prior Knowledge
SWBAT conjugate regular verbs and the irregular verbs “aller”, “faire” and “avoir” in positive and
negative sentences.
Unit 2 Paris
Unit Goal
SWBAT express in oral and written form French art and artists using art vocabulary, the passé compose,
commands, comparisons, superlatives and the irregular verbs “mettre”, “prendre” and “voir”.
Unit Assessment
SWBAT compare and contrast two French paintings and artists in oral and written form using their new
vocabulary, the passé compose, commands, comparison, superlatives and the irregular verbs “mettre”,
“prendre” and “voir”.
Prior Knowledge
SWBAT describe pictures using simple vocabulary and the present tense.
Unit 3 En France
Unit Goal
SWBAT express in oral and written form information about French Provinces and cities using travel,
restaurant and descriptive vocabulary, the Passé Composé of “etre” verbs, and the irregular verbs
“dormir”, “lire”, “vouloir”, “pouvoir”, “devoir” and “falloir”.
Unit Assessment
SWBAT create a travel diary using their knowledge of the French Provinces and cities, travel, restaurant
and descriptive vocabulary, the Passé Composé of “être” verbs and the irregular verbs “dormir”, “lire”,
“vouloir”, “pouvoir”, “devoir” and “falloir” and present it with pictures to the class.
Prior Knowledge
SWBAT describe travel experiences in the present tense using simple descriptive adjectives and the
present tense of regular verbs.
Unit 4 La vie quotidienne
Unit Goal
SWBAT express daily routine activities and household chores of people in the French-speaking islands of
the Antilles, using the present and passé composé forms of reflexive verbs in oral and written form.
Unit Assessment
SWBAT compare and contrast on a poster and in an oral presentation the daily routine activities and
household chores that they do and compare that to people in other French-speaking countries , using
the present and passé compose forms of reflexive verbs.
Prior Knowledge
SWBAT describe activities in the present tense in the US or France in oral and written form.
Unit 5 Sports and Leisure
Unit Goal
SWBAT express sports and leisure activities in France using the new vocabulary, direct objects and the
irregular verbs “offrir” and “courir” in oral and written form.
Unit Assessment
SWBAT create a French commercial advertising either, a popular music CD, a movie or a sports camp in
France using the sports and leisure vocabulary, direct objects and an irregular verb.
Prior Knowledge
SWBAT describe simple sports, music types and movie vocabulary in the regular present tense sentences
using direct object nouns.
Unit 6 Les pays du Maghreb
Unit Goal
SWBAT express vocabulary involving French post offices, banks and accessories with indirect object
pronouns, relative pronouns, and the verbs “dire” and “ouvrir” in oral and written form.
Unit Assessment
SWBAT create an informational video for visitors from francophone countries to the United States
explaining how to use our post offices, banks and what types of accessories to bring or not bring, using
the new vocabulary with indirect object pronouns, relative pronouns and the verbs “dire” and “ouvrir”.
Prior Knowledge
SWBAT describe going to a bank, post office and accessories with indirect object nouns.
Unit 7 Les Chateaux
Unit Goal
SWBAT express airport, train and French chateau vocabulary using the new verbs “savoir” and
“connaitre”, double object pronouns and the expression of time, “il y a” in oral and written form.
Unit Assessment
SWBAT create a poster which will be presented to the class about a particular chateau including a little
of the history of the chateau, how people can travel to the chateau using the new travel vocabulary, the
expression “il y a” and double object pronouns.
Prior Knowledge
SWBAT describe a chateau using descriptive adjectives and modes of transportation using direct and
indirect object nouns.
Unit 8 En voyage
Unit Goal
SWBAT express hotel vocabulary and breakfast words using the imperfect tense and the verbs
“recevoir”, “voir” and “croire” in oral and written form comparing hotel breakfasts from different
francophone countries.
Unit Assessment
SWBAT prepare a poster of a famous hotel, restaurant or a traditional dish of the past which will be
presented in class from a francophone country, using the new vocabulary and the imperfect tense.
Prior Knowledge
SWBAT describe a simple breakfast in the present tense.
Unit 9 Des gens celebres du monde francophone
Unit Goal
SWBAT use correctly the imperfect and passé composé tenses in a story about a famous French person
in oral and written form.
Unit Assessment
SWBAT write a story in French about a famous French person using the imperfect and passé compose
tenses which they will present orally in a power point presentation.
Prior Knowledge
SWBAT write a story in the present tense.
