STA Weekly Update August 22, 2013 St. Thomas Aquinas Church Over the next year, the St Thomas Aquinas Stewardship Committee will be guiding our parish into a greater commitment to Catholic stewardship. Every week, we will share teachings and scripture for our reflection and to assist us becoming closer to our Lord and Jesus Christ through stewardship. Living Your Faith Through Stewardship: Your Time, Talent and Treasure Our attitude towards giving is more important than the amount given. Here are four scriptural attitudes toward giving: 1. Cheerful, not grudging. "Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver" (2 Cor. 9:7). Our attitude should not be one of obligation, but heartfelt desire and readiness (Exod. 25:2; 2 Cor. 8:3-4,11-12). 2. As unto the Lord, not men. Jesus told us that we have no reward when we give alms to be noticed and hon- ored by men (Matt. 6:1-4). We should not give because of what others will think, but because it honors the Lord. 3. Motivated by love. "And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor . . . but do not have love, it profits me nothing" (1 Cor. 13:3). Biblical giving is a manifestation of the sincerity of our love for God and others (2 Cor. 8:8). 4. Unconditional. Contrary to some popular teaching, we should not give to get. Giving is clouded by greed and selfishness when it is done in order to become more materially prosperous. Faithfulness in giving leads to spiri- tual blessing, but it is not a guarantee of material blessing. Material prosperity is not a sign of godliness, and poverty is not a sign of a lack of faith (Phil. 4:12). All that we have comes from God and belongs to God (1 Cor. 4:7; Jas. 1:17), and He wants us to share whether we have much or little. Biblical giving should be sacrificial so that we will always trust God to provide for our needs (see Mark 12:41 -44). Enjoy singing praise to God? Then, please consider being apart of the STA Choir. We are trying to make sure there are enough people interested that we have safety in numbers. The current plan is that the STA Choir would practice about 2 times a month and sing once a month. The choir will be situated for ages 16 and up, but families of any age that would like to participate together are welcome. Please let Sandra Santucci ssantucci@sta-indy.org know if you are interested in praising God in song as part of the STA Choir.
