examples from my English to Latin sentences for chapter 11 to show the kinds of notes
that are acceptable to provide for the quiz.
Please leave the notes with the proctor in order to gain credit for the sentences.
Please also put your name and I.D. at the top of the paper.
11.1 That no-good slime bucket sister of yours is dear to no one.
1. "that no good... of yours:" ista is fine for all.
2. "dear: cârus, -a, -um + dative
3. The dative of "no one" is nêminî.
4. Linking verb requires predicate nominative for cârus.
11.2 His friend, however, sent the chapters of those same books to the writer.
1. autem: however. Do not make this the first word, but rather the second or third.

2. chapters: caput, capitis, n.
3. same: eôrundem is the right gender, number, and case. Note the insructor's rather
ludicrous typo in one of the classes, which she will not repeat here.
4. writer: use scrîptor, scrîptôris, m. as an indirect object.
11.3 Not only her brother but also your sister think the same (thing).
1. Only: sôlum
2. her: eius
3. think: do not forget to make sentiô plural.
4. the same thing: idem as substantive, remembering the correct case.
11.4 Since neither the consuls nor the Roman people understand these fears, they will not
send their forces on that road.
1. neither... nor....: neque/nec, repeated.
2. A consul is a person, not a plan: cônsul, cônsulis, m.
3. Roman people: use a form of populus, -î, m. in the singular.
4. forces: use a form of côpiae, -ârum, f.pl.
11.5 No one will do that on account of love for you.
1. No one: nêmô in the nominative.
2. will do: faciô is a third -iô verb and thus does NOT form its future like moneô.
3. that: neuter singular substantive, illud.
4. of you: tuî, objective genitive
