Eric Niemitalo Memorial Scholarship in Earth and
Environmental Science
Eric Niemitalo was a student at Shoreline Community College. He was working towards an Associate of Science
Degree and planning to transfer to a 4-year College to pursue a degree in Environmental Science with
emphasis in Geology. His progress towards his dream career was tragically interrupted by his premature death.
The Shoreline Community College Foundation, on behalf of family and friends who wish to honor Eric’s
memory; are offering a $500 Eric Niemitalo Memorial Scholarship to one student who is pursuing a degree in
the sciences. Preference will be given to those who continuing at an accredited college or university and
focusing on earth or environmental science.
This scholarship is to be used for tuition and fees related to tuition on or before June 2016 at Shoreline Community College.
The scholarship has no cash exchange value and is non-transferable.
Criteria for Eligibility
Applicant must be a Washington state resident (as defined by the college).
Applicant needs to have completed at least 15 credits at Shoreline Community College.
Applicant must be presently enrolled at SCC for at least 12 credits.
Applicant must have completed at least one course at Shoreline Community College in one of the
following subject areas: Geology, Environmental Science, Geography or Oceanography.
 Applicant must be in Good Academic Standing.
 Applicant must demonstrate financial need.
 Applicant must intend to pursue a degree in the Sciences. Preference will be given to those who are
pursuing a degree in Earth or Environmental Science at an accredited college or university.




Application Procedures
To be considered, each applicant must submit four collated packets (typed). Each packet must
include:
Completed Application.
Completed Budget Worksheet.
Current Class Schedule.
SCC Unofficial Transcript through winter 2015.
One page typed essay describing your interest in Earth or Environmental Science
and your professional goals.
6. Statement regarding current financial need.
7. Written permission to contact all Earth/Environmental Science instructors.
8. Names of three references (outside of Shoreline’s science faculty) including email addresses & phone
numbers.
