ANALYSIS OF FAVORITE SONG
Explanation:
Purpose of the assignment: This task requires you to reflect on your past
performances and evaluate your own opinions of each piece you have sung to this
point. Each piece was meant to teach you a different musical concept and
develop your ability as a singer. As you write this paper, think about the
challenges you had to work through in each song and how you ultimately felt
about your final performance of each piece.
Guidelines for the Experience:
- Think about every piece you have sung and choose which song was your
favorite of the year so far. (A list of all songs is on the back of this paper)
- Take some time thinking about each song and why it was challenging or
easy. Just because a song was easy doesn’t necessarily mean it should be
your favorite. Really think about which song was truly rewarding to perform
after going through the work to learn it.
Requirements for the Report:
- One page long, minimum (it can be longer, if needed)
- Typed (double-spaced), following the guidelines in the Spartan Formal
Writing Rubric
- Please discuss all of the following bullet points in your paper:
o Tell me the title and composer/arranger of the piece.
o Research and write a brief history of the piece and its composer. Is
there an interesting story behind it?
o Describe the meaning of the song. What are the lyrics talking about?
What emotion should the audience feel when you sing it?
o What was challenging for you in this song?
o What came easy for you?
o What musical skills did you develop as you learned this song?
o Emotionally, why is this song your favorite? Were you able to relate it
to your own life? Did you feel unified with your choir? Was it a new
and exciting style or language? How did you feel while you sang it?
