Ecological Engineering for Wetlands Brought to you by Tricia Lee, MLIS Candidate at San Jose State University, School of Library and Information Science May 2010 This pathfinder will be useful in finding information about Ecological Engineering for wetlands in California. This pathfinder is geared towards college students who would have more privileged electronic journal access than a public library would allow. Most Ecological Engineers are more likely to be students studying this topic or professionals. Most materials suggested in this pathfinder will be geared towards free and public resources. The materials that require a subscription should be available to most professionals or college-leveled students. Wetlands are defined by the California Wetlands Information System as follow: “Wetland shall be defined as land where the water table is at near, or above the land surface long enough to promote the formation of hydric soils or to support the growth of hydrophytes, and shall also include types of wetlands where vegetation is lacking and soil is poorly developed or absent as a result of frequent drastic fluctuations of surface water levels, wave action, water flow, turbidity or high concentration of salts or other substances in the substrate. Such wetlands can be recognized by the presence of surface water or saturated substrate at some during each year and their location within, or adjacent to vegetated wetland or deepwater habitats” (Code of Regulations, 14 CCR 13577). As most Ecology Engineers will try to engineer wetlands, there are restrictions and guidelines they must follow. The materials recommended through this site will assist the patron in locating some of these materials and guidelines. This is an introductory guide and resources found through various library catalogs, government websites, and through references provided by the Science & Technology Resources and Information Service class through San Jose State University. However, with the combine resources of other libraries and online resources, this pathfinder provides a preliminary starting point for Ecological Engineering of wetlands in California research. This is not to be interpreted as an all-inclusive reference source. Some materials were omitted due to availability of an item and/or relevancy. Older materials were left in as for historical reference. Resources were chosen through links provided by the Science and Technology Reference and Information Services class at San Jose State University.
