Final Project – InDesign Part 1 – Logo Create a restaurant logo that will be carried throughout the rest of the semester. It must be a 2-color (Pantone Colors) or Full Color logo and include text. These colors will be used throughout the rest of the project. Be creative with the text. Don’t use straight text. Manipulate it with the direct selection tool, create outlines, pen tool, etc. No bitmap images will be allowed. Think of a simple shape or object you can create with the pen tool, shapes or pathfinder. If you need to use a bitmap image you may place it in InDesign or Illustrator (lower the opacity) and trace with the pen tool or other tools. If the logo contains a bitmap image it will not be accepted. It must be vector based. Logo must be approved before continuing with project. Part 2 – Identity Package Business Card The logo created in Part 1 will be used to create a business card for the restaurant. Include details on it such as: restaurant name, address, phone number, business hours (?), manager (?), etc. • • • Size: 3.5” x 2” (one sided or double sided) Bleed: .125” Margin: .125” use this as a safety zone, text should not exceed the margin Use one serif font and one sans serif font (try out new fonts that have not been used before). Avoid overused fonts such as: Times New Roman, Comic Sans, and Papyrus. Be mindful of text size. Most business cards do not use a text size over 10pt. Take a look at other business cards to get ideas. Images can be used on the card, but make sure that they are not pixilated. Make the business card interesting and creative. THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX. All of the pieces for the Identity Package should contain elements that are carried throughout the other pieces. They should all have an element that the viewer can recognize with and sense that they all belong together. For example, a strip down the side on each piece or a image used in each of the pieces. Letterhead Create a letterhead using the logo that was developed. The text should not exceed more than 2 ½ “ of the height of the document. The logo and the address should not take up most of the paper. The letterhead may contain a watermark in the background, but make sure that it is light enough to see the writing or typing over it. • • • Size: 8.5” x 11” Bleed: .125” Margin .125” Envelope Create an envelope using the logo developed earlier. Place all the info in the left hand top corner. The text and logo should not exceed more than 1 ½” of the height of the envelope. • • • Size: 9.5” x 4.125” Bleed: 0” Margin .125” This must be approved by the instructor before proceeding to the next step. Final Project – InDesign Menu The assignment is to design a Menu that you have already created a logo for. The menu must be 11” x 17”. Both sides need to be set up in the same document. The menu must be folded in some way. • • Safety Zone of 1/8” (set margins) Use guides for fold lines Menu Requirements • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Text Wraps & Offset 2 Types of Fonts (serif & sans serif) Variations in font size (headings and body copy) Placed pictures (one as a faded background image, no more than 2 images in a square box with a stroke, be creative – use effects or make paths to experiment with new ways to place an image) New swatch colors, mixed ink groups Text or Object Effects Use Object Styles, Character Styles, Paragraph Styles, or Nested Styles (at least 2) Gradient (Do not use as complete background) Tabs Tables (at least 6 cells) Pathfinder (add, subtract, intersect, or exclude) Superscript Glyph Kerning, Tracking, Leading Address, phone number, business hours, specials Must be printed and presented to class on due date.
