PCM Financial Assistance Policy
The Phoenix Conservatory of Music is a 501 c 3 not for profit organization.
The Phoenix Conservatory of Music’s mission is to provide high quality music education and experiences to students and families that
is affordable and accessible. We fill our mission by providing community education programs and classes, after school programs for at
risk populations, private music lessons, ensembles and a unique college preparatory program in affiliation with the Berklee City Music
Network.
PCM does not discriminate on the basis of age, sex, national origin, income, religious practices or beliefs, or ability. All participants are
endowed with all of the rights, privileges, and program offerings generally accorded to or made available through any PCM
administered program.
In keeping with our commitment to Arts for All, PCM offers financial assistance through the following methods:

Financial Aid (Reduced Lesson Fees)

Full Scholarship

Work Study
Available financial assistance funds are determined at the beginning of each year by PCM Directors and are distributed on a sliding
scale. They are supplemented through programs offered by musical mentors (volunteers who provide lessons and classes for students
who cannot afford tuition). In keeping with Federal Assistance guidelines, the percentage of financial aid awarded to each family is
based on HUD Fiscal Year State Income Limits and number of dependents.
PCM Financial Aid
Financial Aid or Reduced Lesson Fees are offered to self identifying students who are at 200-300 % of the federal HUD housing
guidelines. Reduced Fees be applied to private lessons, classes, camps, and ensembles. Reduced Fee schedule for 2014-2015 is below:

Music program, and whose families are at 200% or below the federal HUD housing guidelines.
Students who are not in the PCM City Music program or who are younger than 10, may apply for a scholarship with a music mentor.
If a music mentor is available, a scholarship will be granted.
Students who are gifted with Private Lesson scholarships (full or partial) in the PCM City Music Program will be gifted 30 lessons per
school year (August – June).
Students who are gifted with Private Lesson Scholarships with a PCM Teacher or Music Mentor may not miss more than 4 lessons per
semester, all with more than 24 hours notice, or the scholarship will be given to another student.
PCM Work Study
Work Study is available for City Music Program Alumni and adult students ages 18 and above. Availability can be inquired about at
the registration desk on a semester-by-semester basis. Work-study assignments are based on availability and need; qualified individuals
must have the ability to complete assigned task(s) with minimal guidance and supervision. Examples of work-study assignments include:
database entry, phone/desk reception, filing, bulk mailings, copying and collating, music burning, website update, technical assistance,
ushering, events support, accompaniment, cleanup crew, social media posting, teaching assistance, or special projects. The Director
and/or PCM administrative staff interviews qualified work-study applicants and determines the exchange rate. Currently, all
administrative work-study positions have an exchange 2.5 hours of work for every half hour lesson unit taken. Work is to be
accomplished prior to the lesson being taken. To apply, please submit the application as well as a resume or letter detailing previous
work experience and indicating your area of interest. This will help us place you in a suitable work-study position.
PCM Financial Assistance Attendance Policy
Students are highly encouraged to study privately. Those who were not taking private lessons from a music teacher outside our
organization are able to enroll in private music lessons at our reduced rate or if they qualify, be offered financial aid or full private
lesson scholarship. If you want to inquire to see if you qualify for financial aid or scholarship, please contact Regina Nixon at
regnixon@pcmrocks.org
Students who are gifted with Private Lesson scholarships (full or partial) in the PCM City Music Program will be gifted 30 lessons per
school year (August – June) . Financial aid (Reduced Fee) students can continue to take music lessons all 12 months.
Students who are gifted with Private Lesson Scholarships with a PCM Teacher or Music Mentor may not miss more than 4 lessons per
semester, all with more than 24 hours notice, or the scholarship will be given to another student.
If you have to cancel a lesson, please do not contact your private lesson teacher directly. Please call and leave a message for our
registrar at 602.353.9900 or email info@pcmrocks.org. If you have a concern about your message getting to your teacher, please
contact me directly at regnixon@pcmrocks.org. Our registrar works Monday through Friday from 1-8pm, and Saturday 9-5pm.
If you cancel a lesson with less than 24 hours, for a NON emergency situation, families will be REQUIRED to repay the scholarship
fund at a rate of $13 per missed 30 minutes of lesson time.
