Ibis is a family of wading birds found mostly in the wetlands
of tropical or subtropical climates. Distinguished by its long,
curved beak, which it uses to probe layers of soil to find
nourishment, ibis can also take the broad view, soaring high
and flying up to 3,000 km to search for food and water.
Due to the depletion of wetlands habitats, some species
of ibis have become extinct and others are endangered.
Environmental researchers therefore consider the presence
of an ibis colony in a given wetlands area an indicator of
environmental health and balance.
