www.spartanpolymers.com Technical Services www.spartanpolymers.com Technical Services We provide state of the art technical services to our customers. With uses of Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier Transfer Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) we can reverse engineer any polymer based products. FTIR FTIR allows for an overview of the base materials and additives present in the product being investigated. This spectroscopic equipment can distinguish between PE, PP, Nylons, PET, EVA, EVOH, PET-G, ABS, K-Resin, Tie Resins, and other products and additives. ATR Attenuated Total Reflectance FTIR spectroscopy allows us to determine the formulation of surfaces on parts and flexible packaging. With use of this attachment we penetrate the product with an infrared laser 2 microns deep. This allows for the characterization of the surface of a product without over shadowing the spectra as with typical transmission scanning techniques. DSC With use of DSC, we can characterize the thermal properties of any polymers with a Glass Transition or a Melting Point. This is important when trying to distinguish between different PE based materials, as well as Poly Amides. Rigid Part Testing Gardner Impact Gives information on part failure and how affective our modifiers will be in blends to improve overall impact properties of your parts Notched or Un-notched Izod Provides the conditions of maximum stress or force on a rigid part just before angular impact failure. 25 Ton Injection Molder Provides a family of parts for determining Flex–Mod, Gardner Impact and Izod of incoming raw materials for QC or an effective development tool for polymer blends. 3 Point Bending Flex-Mod A valuable tool that provides real world data regarding the flexibility of rigid parts. www.spartanpolymers.com Melt Flow Rate and Melt Flow Index This rheological test provides important information on incoming raw materials or product investigation regarding polymer sheer at a given temperature, time and force. Flexible Packaging Testing and Evaluation Tensile Testing of Film Provides physical properties such as stiffness, peak elongation at break, as well as elastic recovery of flexible packaging. Coefficient of Friction Provides the amount of force for a 200 gram sled to slide along one piece of flexible packaging on top of another. We offer both static and kinetic testing. Elmendorf Tear Provides the amount of angular force in grams to propagate a tear of a pre-notched film sample at a given gauge. Total Energy Puncture Test When determining puncture performance on thin films, we sometimes need more dynamic data regarding a slow puncture test rather than a free falling blunt object. Dart Impact Testing This test allows the determination of how much weight can be placed on a free falling dart at the point of failure of a flexible film. In this case failure is determined to be the rupturing of the film as to cause a hole. Product Development Lab Advanced Packaging Development With our 5 layer blown film process line, Spartan Polymers is your in house flexible packaging R&D team. We are dedicated to problem solving and pushing the boundaries of todays resin technologies to meet your cost and performance goals. Spartan is your ideal development partner to help your company enter into value added markets with minimal product development time. Let us help you cut the time it takes to commercialize new products and speed you on your way to a more profitable and sustainable customer base. Laboratory Scale Batch Compounding We understand that our customers sometimes need more than just off the shelf compounded products. With our new 32 mm twinscrew compounding line, we can help you develop new masterbatch, additive concentrates and polymer alloys. We stand ready to help you reformulate antioxidant packages, slip and antiblock additives, processing aids and color concentrates that will help improve your product performance. Although we are not a custom compounder, we can help you work more effectively with your current additive suppliers. At Spartan, we empower our customers to solve problems. www.spartanpolymers.com Spartan Polymers is a new kind of resin distributor whose strategic mission is to assist customers through product innovation, raw material sourcing, and cost savings associated with the blending of our commodity and engineered olefin resins.
