Introduction
Welcome to Carey Theological College’s online and hybrid courses! These courses use the Connect
online learning environment hosted by UBC’s IT Services. You can log on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,
from any computer connected to the Internet. Through the course website, you will have access to:
Course content
Course schedule
Instructor information
Learning activities
Self-assessment tools
Discussion forums
Assignment and exam information
Other resources for interaction &
learning
The course website is your primary access point to information and learning activities related to your
course. Therefore, it is essential for you to become familiar with the course website as soon as the session
begins.
This document has been designed to help you to get started using your course website and in it, you will
find information on:
What you need before you login to the Connect course website
How to create a Campus Wide Login (CWL) Login Name and Password
How to login to your Connect course
Who to contact if you need technical help
Keep this document handy – it is a useful reference as you learn to use the course website.
Technical Requirements
Your Computer: Course materials are designed to display on a colour monitor at a minimum
resolution of 800x600px, although higher resolutions work best. You should have convenient and
frequent access to the computer, as you will need it to access most of your course materials.
Internet Access: Course websites are designed to load quickly, but the speed of your Internet
connection will affect how quickly the material loads. (Note that due to high volume of Internet
traffic accessing UBC web servers, you may encounter some slow connections to our online
courses. Please try accessing your online course at a later time before contacting the Help Desk.)
Browsers: Connect does not support all browsers. Up to date versions of Internet Explorer, Safari,
Chrome, and Firefox are generally supported. Review this link for up to date information on
supported browsers and other technical support: http://elearning.ubc.ca/connect/get-started-withconnect/
Email Address: An email address is required to access Connect. It will be used to contact your
instructor and classmates. If you have more than one email address, please let your instructor
know which email address you use most frequently so that he or she can be sure that you are
receiving any course-related information in a timely fashion.

nevertheless memorable.
