Benefits of Using MindTap_____________________________________________
MindTap from Cengage Learning represents a new approach to a highly personalized, online learning
platform. A cloud-based learning solution, MindTap combines all of your learning tools - readings,
multimedia, activities and assessments into a singular Learning Path that guides you through the
curriculum. Instructors personalize the experience by customizing the presentation of these learning
tools to their students; even seamlessly introducing their own content into the Learning Path via "apps"
that integrate into the MindTap platform.

First Time Login______________________________________________________

To get started, navigate to: login.cengagebrain.com

If this is your first time using a Cengage Learning Product, you will need to create a new account.
Create Profile
Now you will need to enter the MindTap Course Key and select continue.


Confirm this is the MindTap course to which you would like to register. If the course is incorrect,
click Edit Course Key. If correct, click Continue.
Follow the directions and create a Cengage Learning student account.

Once completed, you will be directed to your dashboard.
You will have until the end of the grace period to pay for your MindTap course. You can enter your
access code if you have it at this time.

Home Page – The Personal Learning Experience
 MindTap is a customizable, complete solution that is more than an eBook and different from any learning
management system you’ve ever used. MindTap delivers courses built on authoritative Cengage Learning content.
Learning Path
 The MindTap experience begins with the Learning Path, which lists Pre-Lecture and Post-Lecture resources for
every chapter. For example, click on Chapter 2 for examples of both resources.
Pre-Lecture
Overview
 Each chapter presents the same consistent set of Pre-Lecture resources.
Introduction Video
 Every MindTap Pre-Lecture section begins with a relevant Introduction Video that highlights key topics—and
engages interest.
Learning Objectives
 After watching the video, you can review chapter Learning Objectives, which capture essential concepts in an
easy-to-read format.
Chapter Overview
 Next, read the Overview. It provides a breakdown of major topic areas and includes illustrations and examples
that students can review before class.
Chapter Quiz
 The Pre-Lecture Quiz provides you with a clear understanding of their strong and weak areas with respect to the
topic, so you can tailor your studying accordingly.
Post-Lecture
Overview
 Within the Post-Lecture, students easily access their reading and homework assignments.
Reading Activity
 An interactive learning resource, the MindTap Reader was built from the ground up to create a unique digital
reading experience.
Homework
 After completing the Reading Activity, move on to your Homework. You can complete and submit homework
online—and receive instant feedback.
 When you answered incorrectly, you can read an explanation that clarifies the correct response.
Features
Easy Navigation
 Within the reader, users can navigate from section to section or page to page with guidance from page
thumbnails and arrows.
Convenient Tools
 The robust functionality of the MindTap Reader allows students to make notes, highlight text, and even find a
definition right from the page.
Learning Apps
Overview
 A comprehensive library of Learning Apps gives students what they need to prepare for a course or exam—all
from a single platform.
Notebook
 By clicking the My Notes icon, students can access the Notebook, which allows them to write, print, and share
their notes. They can also access their notes outside the MindTap environment if they have an EverNote account.
Dictionary
 The Merriam-Webster dictionary app makes it easy for students to find definitions of new or unfamiliar words.
In addition, a click on a word that appears in bold font delivers the definition via the same app.
Flashcards
 Students can either click through MindTap Reader’s Flashcard app or create their own flashcards to review key
terms and concepts.
Text-to-Speech ReadSpeaker
 If students retain more information by hearing instead of reading, they can select a portion of the assignment
and listen to it using the ReadSpeaker text-to-speech app.
ConnectYard
 MindTaps boosts engagement by encouraging students to interact with their content, as well as with their peers,
instructors, and tutors via the ConnectYard social app.
View Progress
 The View Progress App archives grades and makes them easily available to you, keeping you apprised of personal
and current class standings.
