RESOURCES FOR FUNDING A NEW HIRE
ONTARIO CO-OPERATIVE EDUCATION TAX CREDIT
The Co-operative Education Tax Credit (CETC) is a refundable tax credit available to eligible employers who
hire students enrolled in a recognized Ontario university post-secondary co-operative education program.
Amount: This tax credit reimburses employers 25% to 30% of eligible expenditures. The maximum credit for
each qualifying work placement is $3,000.

INDUSTRIAL UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT RESEARCH AWARDS (I-USRA)
I-USRAs benefit private-sector profit based companies that conduct R&D on site, including applied and basic
research, experimental design or support work.
Amount: The maximum grant for each fiscal year is $4,500.

MITACS “ACCELERATE”
Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows from all disciplines can apply their specialized expertise to
business-related research challenges. Armed with the very latest tools, techniques, and innovations, the intern
brings a new perspective to the problem faced by the industry partner. Interns transfer their skills from theory
to real-world application, while the companies gain a competitive advantage by accessing high-quality research
expertise.
Amount: Each 4-month internship project receives $15,000 in direct funding, with the partner organization
and Mitacs each providing $7,500
