NYU Does not officially support or maintain documentation on how to connect to NYU's VPN service using Linux. NYU's official VPN help page can be found here. This article details how to connect using KVpnc Client software on Ubuntu Linux. Using Ubuntu Software Center found on the Applications menu, find and install both the vpnc and KVpnc client software. Once the KVpnc software is installed, restart the computer. Configuring KVpnc on Ubuntu for NYU VPN Connectivity 1. Open KVpnc and begin to create a new profile. Select new Profile (Wizard) from the Profile menu. 2. Click Next > when the Welcome screen opens. 3. At the Type selection window choose the Cisco (free) type and click Next > You may see a prompt informing you that "The required daemon (vpnc) is not available, you will not be able to use this connection until the daemon is installed." Click Ok and proceed as follows. 4. At the Cisco selection window, choose Enter data manually and click Next > 5. At the User settings window enter your NetID as the Username and leave all check boxes and the password field blank. 6. At the Cisco settings window, enter: IPSec ID: nyu-vpn Group password: nyu-net Select checkbox for Save group password and Click Next > 7. At the Network settings window, choose Network device: default 8. At the Network routes window, leave entries blank and Click Next > 9. At the NAT settings window select the Use UDP and Use NAT check boxes and click Next > 10. At the Connection status check window uncheck Use connection status check and select the Reconnect after connection lost checkbox only and click Next > 11. At the Connect options window, uncheck Connect after creating new profile and click Next > 12. At the General settings window enter the following information: Profile name: NYU-VPN Description: leave blank VPN gateway: vpn.nyu.edu 13. At the Finish window click Finish. Connecting to NYU VPN using KVpnc Navigate the Application menu to Internet > KVpnc to open the KVpnc software. You may be prompted for your username and/or password. Once the KVpnc software is loaded, click the Connection icon. When the Enter account data screen appears enter the following: Username: Your NetID Enter group password: nyu-net Password: Your Password for your NYU NetID account Select Save username Select Save PSK Congratulations!!! You are successfully connected to the NYU VPN Network.
