Smart ATLANTIC Alliance Initiative
Marine Institute of Memorial University’s Centre for Applied Ocean Technology
(CTec) in St. John’s
Dalhousie University Institute for Ocean Research Enterprise (IORE) in Halifax
The Alliance was grown out of the MI SmartBay program in Placentia Bay. In
operation 7 years.
Maintains buoys in Halifax, St. John’s, Placentia Bay, Port aux Basques and
Conception Bay and Bay of Islands with additional deployments planned for Saint
John Harbour, NB
Data are made available in near real-time and historical data can also be
accessed
Supported by governmental agencies and departments (e.g. IBRD – NL, DFO, the
Atlantic Pilotage Authority, Transport Canada and private sector partners including
Amec Foster Wheeler, and the Port of Halifax.
SmartAtlantic Alliance supports oceanographic and meteorological measurements
to improve operational efficiency, situational awareness and safety in the marine
environment.
