BRIGHTLINETM NYLON-AB
BRIGHTLINETM NYLON-AB (Antimicrobial) filaments have
demonstrated, under controlled laboratory tests, to be able to
inhibit microorganisms growth
INTRODUCTION
“Microorganisms, such as algae, bacteria and fungi, can attack plastics shortening
their useful life by causing stains, odor, and embrittlement and by lowering tensile
strength and electrical properties. A plastic article’s susceptibility depends on the
microorganisms’ ability to use it as a source of nutriments. Microorganisms
secrete enzymes that can break down long chain molecules into fragments small
enough to be absorbed and used as energy for cell processes and growth” 1 .
BrightlineTM Nylon-AB filaments contain an inorganic Silver based
antimicrobial that prevents the growth of a wide number of bacteria, mold and
yeast on the surface of the filaments. Therefore, it provides outstanding odor
control and hygiene maintenance, ideal properties for any cleaning brush.
MICROORGANISMS GROWTH INHIBITION TEST
BrightlineTM Nylon-AB filaments were evaluated in an external laboratory for
bacteria growth inhibition tests to prove the efficacy of their properties. The test
consists in contaminating directly the specimen with test organisms to simulate
antimicrobial efficacy. The survival rate of the microorganisms on the test
specimen is investigated after set time intervals by rinsing off the test organisms
from the plastic, diluting the germ suspension, and subsequently plating out
aliquots on agar plates for determination of the colony-forming units.
Microbiostatic and, even, microbicidal activity was confirmed for different
bacteria confirming the outstanding possibilities of BrightlineTM Nylon-AB filaments.
