Mondial Relay’s new partnership with Decathlon for
a speedy store parcel collection service
Attentive as ever to the needs of its customers, home
delivery specialists Mondial Relay have launched an
automated locker order collection system, as
commissioned by Decathlon. These facilities have now
been installed in seven Decathlon stores located across
Paris and Greater Paris. It’s a viable alternative to
traditional delivery systems, enabling Decathlon
customers to collect their online orders whenever they
choose, and treating them to an innovative and timeefficient buying experience.
Mondial Relay and Decathlon play the OMNI-CHANNEL card
In recent months automated lockers have become a hot topic in the world of e-commerce, viewed as a
new delivery method capable of breathing life into retailers’ omni-channel strategies. Which retail
company hasn't dreamed of being a private Point Relais® for its own online customers as a way of
building their loyalty?
In November 2014, Decathlon paved the way with Mondial Relay by delivering its orders to the first
ever automated locker supplied by Packcity and located in the Paris Wagram store. Less than a
month later, six more systems had been rolled out in the Decathlon stores of Claye Souilly, Paris
Porte de Montreuil, Paris Aquaboulevard, Paris Cnit La Défense, Bois Sénart and Herblay. Based on the
principle of self-service, these completely secure lockers provide consumers with a flexible and
straightforward alternative for collecting parcels, as well as a more convenient shopping experience
instore.
“Innovation has been part of Mondial Relay's DNA since the beginning, with initiatives such as selfservice Points Relais® outlets in superstores, e-stock control, Points Relais® Communication, and
recycling having strengthened our trademark. The diversity of our online retail customers (pure
players, retailers, etc.) keeps us on our toes, encouraging us to come up with ever more innovations
and be as creative as possible. Several Decathlon stores are already using our automated lockers, in
response to the success of the instore collection system. Our European presence means that this type
of distribution also works in certain countries that are covered by our Europarcel service,” emphasises
Antoine Pottiez, Mondial Relay’s Managing Director.
Carried by the success of these new facilities, Decathlon and Mondial Relay plan to extend this
system to other stores throughout 2015.

“Listening to our customers means understanding
that they expect to have a shopping experience
that’s quick and straightforward, and - above all - with all channels seamlessly integrated (internet,
stores, services, etc.). Our job is therefore to give our customers and our store teams an efficient omnichannel solution. This is the reason we've decided to work with Mondial Relay and Packcity to roll out
the first automated lockers, which need to comply with two key aims:
- Enable our customers to collect their parcel extremely quickly in store, whilst leaving them the
option to seek assistance from our teams if they so wish.
- Help our stores to optimise parcel management, which can sometimes be rather time-consuming,
particularly during peak activity periods,” stresses Yann Catry, Operations Director for Decathlon
France.
Delivery instore or to a Point Relais®: easy and economical for Decathlon customers
Aside from the simplicity and practicality of these two delivery methods - with their choice of 4,500
Point Relais® outlets in France and 262 Decathlon stores - both constitute the most economic options
for customers. For Decathlon stores fitted with automated lockers, the customer simply selects their
preferred delivery store using "click and collect”, and receives 2 security codes by email or text once
their parcel is deposited in the locker. As with Point Relais®, locker parcels can be collected at any
point during a 14 day period during the normal opening hours of Decathlon stores.
