The Placer Title Company Story
Placer Title Company was founded by Leo French in 1973. Leo’s vision
was to create a work environment that emphasized people. His dream:
“To bring together a group of people who really care about each other
and about their customers.” Leo believed that if this was accomplished,
success would follow. It did. Beginning with only two offices—one in
Roseville, California and the other in Auburn, California—Placer Title
Company has grown throughout Northern California and beyond.
At Placer Title Company, our people are dedicated to the industry
and are committed to giving exceptional service. Our staff’s longevity,
combined with the company’s commitment to retaining long-term client
relationships, has been the key to our success and is what makes us
who we are today. Backed by the strength of Mother Lode Holding
Company, we have been able to diversify our business by creating a
National Lender Service Division — PTC/National Closing Solutions, a
§1031 Exchange Company — NCS Exchange Professionals, and a Short
Sale Negotiation Service — Short Sale Advantage. Furthermore, we
have expanded our title and escrow services by adding North Idaho
Title, Montana Title and Escrow, Wyoming Title and Escrow, and Targhee
National Title to our family of companies. By expanding our services, we
can better serve our clients and offer solutions to all of their title and
escrow needs. At Placer Title Company, we care about each other and
our clients, and continually demonstrate why we are a proven leader in
the title and escrow industry.
Visit us on the web at www.PlacerTitle.com to locate one
of our nearly 50 Northern and Central California locations.

Welcome to Antioch
HISTORY OF ANTIOCH
The settlers arrived at the foot of what is now “F” Street, on September 16, 1850. They
camped under the oaks in tents and planned their homes. Five houses were built in that
first fall and winter. The most westerly was Captain Kimball’s home at the southeast corner
of today’s 3rd and F Streets; the others extended eastward to about the intersection of
Sixth and A Streets. Captain Kimball later had the town laid out in blocks. He purchased
much of the early town site, giving some to organizations and selling some to individuals.
The settlers planted for a harvest in 1850 only to be struck by one of the worst droughts
ever recorded in California. They were forced to move to the Kirker Pass area where they
could cut the wild oat grass and take it by scow to San Francisco, receiving sixty dollars
per ton. This helped hold them over until a harvest in 1852. Some of the original Antioch
settlers stayed around Kirker Pass, but most of them returned to their homes in Antioch.
On July 5, 1851 they held a picnic at Reverend Smith’s home on a bluff overlooking the
river and thirty or forty of the early settlers chose the name of Antioch, after Antioch of
Syria, in memory of Reverend Smith, who had died in the area in February 1850.
The town limits were the San Joaquin at low tide on the north, A Street to the east, 10th
street to the south and O Street to the west. People started moving south of 10th street
around 1900, assuming they were still in Antioch; the boundaries were finally changed in
the 1930s.
From 1850 to 1880 the river was the only means of transportation and communication
with the outside world. Antioch boasted three miles of frontage with 40-foot deep water
three quarters of a mile wide to accommodate shipping. A number of early industries
and business enterprises were established in Antioch including brick kilns, coal mining, a
copper smelter, several potteries and distilleries. In 1889 a paper mill was built on the west
side of L Street, north of 4th Street.
With incorporation in February 1872, the town began to develop in a more orderly fashion.
The organization of the fire and police departments gave the people a feeling of safety, with
more time to devote to the nurturing of a healthy, growing community.

Antioch is now the “Gateway to the Delta”, located on the banks of the San Joaquin River in
Northern California, just off of Highway 4, in Contra Costa County.
With a population of over 100,000 people, Antioch has become the heart of Eastern Contra
Costa County, offering a variety of employment, shopping and vast recreational activities.
There is always something to do in Antioch, including outings to the County Fair, playing
a round of golf or roaring down the slides at the Prewett Family Waterpark. There really is
something for everyone who lives in Antioch.
The City of Antioch maintains 294 acres of land developed as public parks and recreation
areas with a wide range of facilities that offer something for everyone. Outside the City’s
park system, Black Diamond Coal Mines, a historical preserve dating back to the 1860’s
represents 3,650 acres of history and local beauty. Contra Loma Regional Park, 776 acres
located at the edge of the Black Diamond Mine preserve, is a popular hiking, picnicking
and swimming spot.

Antioch Marina
The Antioch Marina is one mile north of the intersection of Highway 4 and Somersville Road
in downtown Antioch. Highway 4 runs east and west and provides the primary main access
to and from the Marina. Off-ramps at Somersville “L” Street and “A” Street all
provide access to the Marina Via 4th and 6th Streets and are clearly signed with directions
to the Marina.
State Highway 242 and Interstate I-680 also provide important access to the Marina.
Interstate I-680 runs north from San Jose along the full length of the South and East Bay
and provides access to Highway 4 from much of the Alameda, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz
counties. Highway 24 runs through the Oakland Hills and provides access to I-680 from
Alameda County.
Development of the Antioch Marina began in 1986 and was completed in 1988. The berths
are on the east side of the Marina, with two gangways serving the six main walkways.
The Marina is within walking distance of a major amusement center. Restaurants at the
Marina include Humphrey’s on the Delta (www.humphreys-antioch.com).
The office and fuel dock are open seven days a week from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, and provide
information regarding Marina operation, berth rental, fuel prices and Delta activities.

Lone Tree is a well-known and well-praised golf
course throughout the community. Servicing
over 70,000 rounds of golf annually, this once
remote area of the Delta is now becoming the
newest haven for golfers in the Bay Area. A
professional staff led by PGA General Manager
Jack Oakley provides superb services with
quality sportsmanship. The classic rolling hills
design provides excellent definition between the
fairways and rough. This par-72 course offers
four sets of tees to challenge your skills.
There is a driving range, putting green, and sand area, to loosen up the swinging muscles before
you set out. For your added pleasure, Lone Tree also provides a beverage cart that dutifully patrols
the course, and a phone located at the 9th and 18th hole to place your order with the grille.
