#GREEN24 movement by AirAsia and AirAsia X in Kuala Lumpur inspire
climate action
KUALA LUMPUR, 30 JANUARY 2016 – AirAsia and AirAsia X gathered immense public support
through its #GREEN24 community event held today at APW Bangsar which included the collection
of recyclable items, a marketplace where environmental organisations were gathered to
further educate and promote climate action amongst the public, and awareness programs
about the effects of climate change.
Four categories of recyclable items were collected today including paper, plastic, aluminium and
used clothes and all items collected were segregated and delivered to Tzu Chi Foundation’s
recycling centre. Tzu Chi Foundation is one of the participating partners of the #GREEN24
community event.
Power Shift Malaysia, a climate movement group also shared about the harsh reality of climate
change with the public and shared ways on how Malaysians can take proactive steps to reverse it.
Popular YouTubers Jinnyboy and Reuben from JinnyBoyTV livened up the occasion as celebrity
hosts for the day, along with performances by Joe Flizzow, SonaOne and Noh Salleh. Actress
Neelofa also made a special appearance to support the #GREEN24 movement.
Aireen Omar, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia Berhad said, “The #GREEN24 movement was
launched as a regional initiative across Asean and beyond to raise the profile of climate change
effects in this part of the world. We can change climate change, and we truly believe that the lifestyle
change should really start from ourselves and we need to make sure the people around us are
environmentally conscious, reduce wastage and take active steps in conserving the environment.”
“Throughout the region, all of AirAsia’s offices are carrying out activities aimed at raising awareness
to combat climate change. Today in Kuala Lumpur, we want this event to be a platform where the
community can get together, take active steps by sending in recyclable items to us, and learn and
experience ways to conserve the environment. For AirAsia, our commitment towards climate action is
beyond this community event. We have taken proactive steps in our operations to ensure we reduce
our carbon footprint,” added Aireen Omar.
AirAsia’s #GREEN24 campaign was first launched last November as part of the airline’s Corporate
Social Responsibility initiatives throughout the Asean region. A series of activities have been planned
as part of this campaign, including a group-wide awareness movement across the AirAsia Group and
all its global offices from 29 to 30 January to conserve energy, raise awareness on climate change
and work towards developing a sustainability-aware culture within AirAsia and the industry.
All across Malaysia, all AirAsia offices conducted activities such as beach, park and hill cleanups as
well as recycling drives to further promote good environmental habits among staff and the public.
