Objective/Goal for learning:
To learn that inventions made during the Tang and Song
dynasties are still in use today around the world.

 Wild land turned into farmland

 Areas which were “wild” were plowed and used for
farming = increase in food
 Terraced farming = steps into a hillside to make usable
farmland

Farming = SUCCESS!

 Taxes for the empire

 Farmers crops would be taken to busy cities
 CHANG’ AN = big city in Tang dynasty

 Based in agriculture, but had other items as well
 Trade took place in China
 The Grand Canal = man-made waterways used for
transportation & trade
 Chinese also traded with other cultures outside of
China
 India, Southwest Asia
 Korea, Japan

ocean routes
 New good = PORCELAIN
