Abstract - An oscilloscope, previously called an oscillograph, and informally known as a scope, CRO or DSO is a type of
electronic test instrument that allows observation of constantly varying signal voltages, usually as a two-dimensional graph
of one or more electrical potential differences using the vertical or y-axis, plotted as a function of time. Handy Oscilloscope
is most important gadget in this mobile generation. Where no one is sitting at a place to finish their works . We all are in
hurry and needs gadgets follow our moves. We were just thinking about to carrying a gadget that will be easily carried from
one place to another and work efficiently as an oscilloscope. To implement an oscilloscope using mobile instead of carrying
another gadget which is a good idea Android based oscilloscope which requires nothing but a small circuitry to manage
inputs and provides to android Bluetooth sensors. The Android platform includes support for the Bluetooth network stack,
which allows a device to wirelessly exchange data with other Bluetooth devices. The application framework provides access
to the Bluetooth functionality through the Android Bluetooth APIs. These APIs let applications wirelessly connect to other
Bluetooth devices, enabling point-to-point and multipoint wireless features.

• The runtime
The Android runtime consists of two
components. First a set of core libraries which
provides most of the functionality available in the
core libraries of the Java programming language .
Second the virtual machine Dalvik which operates
like a translator between the application side and the
operating system. Every application which runs on
Android is written in Java. As the operating system is
not able to understand this programming language
directly, the Java programs will be received and
translated by the virtual machine Dalvik.
INTRODUCTION
The term “Android” has its origin in the
Greek word andr-, meaning “man or male” and the
suffix - eides, used to mean “alike or of the species”.
This together means as much as “being human”.
Andorid is a software stack for mobile
devices which means a reference to a set of system
programs or a set of application programs that form a
complete system. This software platform provides a
foundation for applications just like a real working
platform. The software stack is divided in four
different layers, which include 5 different groups:
• The application layer
The Android software platform will come
with a set of basic applications like browser, email
client, SMS program, maps, calendar, contacts and
many more. All these applications are written using
the Java programming language. It should be
mentioned that applications can be run simultaneousl,
it is possible to hear music and read an email at the
same time. This layer will mostly be used by
commonly cell phone users.
• The application framework
An application framework is a software
framework that is used to implement a standard
structure of an application for a specific operating
system. With the help of managers, content providers
and other services programmers it can reassemble
functions used by other existing applications.
• The libraries
The available libraries are all written in
C/C+They will be called through a Java interface.
These includes the Surface Manager (for compositing
windows), 2D and 3D graphics, Media Codecs like
MPEG-4 and MP3, the SQL database SQLite and the
web browser engine WebKit.
Major components of the Android operating system
The translated code can then be executed by
the operating system. A very important notice is that
applications will be encapsulated in Dalvik. For every
program an own virtual machine is available even if
some programs are running parallel. The advantage is
that the different programs do not affect each other,

so a program error for example can lead to a crash of
the program but not of the whole system.

Query the local Bluetooth adapter for paired
Bluetooth devices
 Establish RFCOMM channels
 Connect to other devices through service
discovery
 Transfer data to and from other devices
 Manage multiple connections
Now we are suppose to establish the connection
between a Bluetooth based hardware and android
phone. To establish a connection between both
devices we needs to consider android device as a
master slave and another Bluetooth device as a slave
to pair both devices.
After establishing a connection we can send
commands between both devices and start operating
and receiving data for Oscilloscope device. This
device communication receives data in continuous
form through listeners events and collect received
data into a vector form. Vector form is required to
prepare graph plot on GUI.
• The kernel
The Linux Kernel will be used by Android for its
device drivers, memory management, process
management and networking.
APPLICATION MODEL
In Android’s application model [1], an
application is a package of components, each of
which can be instantiated and run as necessary
(possibly even by other applications). Components
are of the following types:
 Activity components form the basis of the
user interface; usually, each window of the
application is controlled by some activity.
 Service components run in the background,
and remain active even if windows are
switched. Services can expose interfaces for
communication with other applications.
 Receiver components react asynchronously
to messages from other applications.
 Provider components store data relevant to
the application, usually in a database. Such
data can be shared across applications.

The Atmega16 Is A Low-Power CMOS 8-Bit
Microcontroller Based On The AVR Enhanced RISC
Architecture. By Executing Powerful Instructions In
A Single Clock Cycle, The Atmega16 Achieves
Throughputs Approaching 1 MIPS Per Mhz Allowing
The System Designer To Optimize Power

manufactured using Atmel’s high density nonvolatile
memory technology.
The boot program can use any interface to
download the application program in the Application
Flash memory. Software in the Boot Flash section
will continue to run while the Application Flash
section is updated, providing true Read-While-Write
operation. By combining an 8-bit RISC CPU with InSystem Self-Programmable Flash on a monolithic
chip, the Atmel ATmega16 is a powerful
microcontroller that provides a highly-flexible and
cost-effective solution to many embedded control

2 .AUBTM-20 Bluetooth V2.0 Class 2 module
20 offers a bi directional digital audio interface that
routes directly into the baseband layer of the on chip
firmware. It does not pass through the HCI protocol
layer. Hardware on AUBTM-20 allows the data to be
sent to and received from a SCO connection. Up to
three SCO connections can be supported by the PCM
interface at any one time1. AUBTM-20 can operate
as the PCM interface Master generating an output
clock of 128, 256 or 512kHz. When configured as
PCM interface slave it can operate with an input
clock up to 2048kHz.
AUBTM-20 is Bluetooth Core V2.0 compliant
module with SPP. The module is designed to be
embedded in a host system which requires cable
replacement function. Typically the module could
interface with a host through the UART port. The
module could be used in many different application ,
e.g.
• Hand held terminals
• Industrial devices
• Point-of-Sale systems
• PCs
• Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs)
• Computer Accessories
• Access Points
