Objective This Policy is established to properly monitor and control the processes over the granting and termination of access to the WIFI network. II. Owner The Network Unit of Information Technology Center (ITC) is responsible for monitoring the use of Wi-Fi, maintenance of user accounts and connections and network security. III. Scope The policy covers the use of WI-FI in designated areas of the University through the use of mobile equipment such as laptops, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) and the like. IV. V. Definition of Terms 1. WIFI – Wireless Fidelity, is a popular term for a high frequency wireless local area network. 2. Access Type A – WiFi LAN access for students that shall be limited to browsing sites that pass through the DLSU-D firewall system. User account with this access is subject to re-activation based on enrollment status. 3. Access Type B - WiFi LAN access for employees that shall allow access to network resources as defined by the Network Unit. User account with this access remains active based on employment status. 4. Wireless Connection Configuration – an activity of the Network Unit which is limited to maintenance of user accounts and testing of connections. General Policy 1. All members of the community who are enrolled in the wireless service shall be governed by this Policy and the Policy on the Use of Internet Services. 2.1 WIFI access is free to both students and employees. For students the registration shall be on semestral basis and is limited to one laptop per requisitioner. 3. University administrators, faculty and staff of DLSU-D may register their mobile equipment such as laptops, PDAs and the like while students can register their laptops only. 4. Existing Wireless Access Points are virtually interconnected; thus, only one wireless policy shall be implemented. 5. Registration of accounts shall be made after completing the following activities: 5.1 5.2 Accomplishment of the WIFI application form; Configuration of portable device. 6. During registration, the user account shall be combined with the Media Access Control (MAC) address; thus a user account shall be registered to a specific device. 7. Upon account activation, user must ensure that a wireless card is properly installed in the equipment. 8. Network Unit is the authorized unit to handle wireless connection configuration (activate accounts), suspend, reactivate, monitor and manage user accounts, and administer security access of all the WIFI applications. 9. Network Unit shall monitor access and compliance with this Policy and related IT Policies. Any proven violation as stated in the faculty, staff and student manuals shall be coordinated with the Compliance Office is subject to review by Students Welfare and Formation Office (SWAFO) or Human Resource Management Office (HRMO). 10. Procedure 1. Requisitioner proceeds to the Network Unit with their mobile equipment and presents to them the Registration Form & ID. 2. The Network Unit inspects if a wireless adaptor is properly installed in the mobile equipment. 3. The Requisitioner fills-out the WIFI Application form. 4. The Network Unit configures the mobile equipment and then gives the Requisitioner his/her username & password. 5. When an employee clearance is received at ITC, the Network Unit deletes the corresponding employee’s user account to prevent the reactivation of the same in the future.
