Lead designer on two independent projects: one was a multi-part cervical spine instrument set and the second was a single plastic piece for retaining screws with stripped heads. Starting with the surgeons’ goals for the devices, I designed and fabricated functional prototypes that would later be validated using cadavers in a lab. I gained working knowledge about production costs, design for manufacturability and product development in a time restricted environment. Teaching Assistant Mechanical Engineering University of Pennsylvania 2008-2010 Teaching Assistant responsible for six Mechanical Engineering courses over the past two years (101,150,201,247,501). I helped to plan and redesign the curriculum for the mandatory Mechanical Engineering lab course, 247, and worked to redesign an advanced upper level CAD/ CAM class, 501. My responsibilities include managing the 3D printer in the lab and teaching students how to use the software. I am also responsible for building apparatuses to be used in the lab courses, using CAD and various manufacturing techniques, including CNC turning and milling, to design and fabricate them. I also give lectures on visual design and recently on introductions to geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Lab Manager Weiss Tech House University of Pennsylvania 2008-2010 Lab Manager at the Weiss Tech House, a center for innovation and entrepreneurship at Penn. I managed the mechanical and presentation lab spaces with a team of student employees. I wrote the guidelines and policies for use of the spaces and was responsible for ensuring that all labs were clean and workable. I also designed the lab safety training which is still in use today. ConciergeApple Store Derby Street Hingham, MA Summer 2008 During my time in the store I learned, lived and loved the Apple culture. I worked during the iPhone 3G launch and my store was the Red Zone store of the year for customer service. The most significant experience I had was working the iPhone 3G launch, not only selling the devices but teaching new customers how to use the phone. Carpenter’s Apprentice Gledhill Fine Siding and Roofing Cohasset, MA 2006-2007 I worked as a carpenter’s apprentice for two years learning construction and deconstruction of homes. This was my first experience working with precision tools to design and build to specifications. The most important lesson I learned was the value of a hard days work.
