THE DECADENCE OF A NATION

The moral decline of this country is only denied by those who desire to have it so. The word
“sin” is spoken of in generalities, but rarely applied to any specific action (I John 3:4). As a
result, we not only live in a society where sin is widely practiced, it is also justified and
defended. The following is not intended to be all inclusive, but rather a sample of how far we
have drifted from the word of God.
Gay – a distortion of homosexuality
Homosexuals have chosen a name “gay” for two reasons: 1. To divert attention away from what
they do (repulsive to most). 2. To give them an identity as a group. But hear it please,
homosexuals are anything but gay. They live in fear and rightly so, for their way of life is not
only immoral, it is disease ridden as well (in other words they do not love very long).
What does God say about this sexual perversion? He condemns it in no uncertain terms
(Leviticus 18:22; 20:13; Romans 1:24-28; II Peter 2:6; Jude 7).
Choice – justification for killing the unborn (or partial born)
Those who cry long and loud about violence against children have deliberately closed their eyes
to the wanton destruction of helpless children. The doctor can, with the mother’s permission take
the life of the unborn (or partial born) child in ways that would strike terror in the heart of any
adult. True, they do not use guns, although that would be more humane than cutting, burning,
tearing apart or sucking out the brains of a child. Beloved, I just wonder, if the doctor did use a
gun, would that finally loosen the tongues of our lawmakers?
Does God recognize life in the womb? Yes!!! (Jeremiah 1:5; Galatians 1:15; Luke 1:41 et al.).
How does God view the taking of innocent life? He hates it (Proverbs 6:16-17).
Beloved, when a nation does not hold the sanctity of life as a sacred thing, that nation has lost its
moral conscience. Our country is sowing to the wind of immorality, and we are surely reaping
the whirlwind of violence, murder and chaos.
Lottery – robbery by consent
I remember the days when gambling was done in back rooms and operated by some very shady
characters. Gambling is now done openly, regulated by the government under the pretense of
helping various programs. Even religions have their games of chance (so sad).
Gambling violates the basic principles of Christianity:
1. The golden rule (Luke 6:31).
2. Loving your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:39).
3. Providing things honestly in the sight of all men (Romans 12:17).
4. Being a good Steward (I Corinthians 4:1-2; Luke 16:1).

While at the same time gambling creates: Greed (I Timothy 6:10) and discontentment (Hebrews
13:5; I Timothy 6:6; 8).
Party – the pretend face for drunkards
Beloved, all the catchy phrases (taste great, less filling et al.) that they can dream up will not
diminish the harsh reality that alcoholic beverages add absolutely nothing positive or worthwhile
to those who consume it. In fact the opposite is true! Now, I realize that those who produce and
sell alcoholic beverages will never acknowledge nor accept responsibility for the effects their
products have on our society; nevertheless, their products have and continue to destroy
marriages, devastate homes and ruin the hopes and dreams of countless individuals. Further,
every victim of alcohol took the first drink never imaging that it would happen to them!
God knew that to be true, so He warns and describes the effects that drinking alcoholic beverages
produces:
1. It perverts the judgment of those under its influence (Isaiah 5:22-23).
2. It is addictive and loosens moral restraint (Proverbs 23:29-35).
3. The unwise are deceived by it (Proverbs 20:1).
4. It will keep one out of heaven (Galatians 5:19-21).
Living together – polite words for fornication
God knew that it was not good for man to be alone and after all else was crated and no suitable
mate was found for Adam, God created one more time. “And the rib, which the Lord God had
taken from man, made He a woman, and brought her unto man. And Adam said, this is
now bone of my bone, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, because she was
taken out of man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave unto
his wife; and they shall be one flesh” (Genesis 2:22-24).
May I point out emphatically that God did not create a man for a man, or a woman for a woman.
Any union of the same sex did not, does not, nor will it ever constitute a marriage! Every Biblebelieving person ought to make that loud and clear to those who would alter the God-given
institution of marriage.
Well, what about sex? God fully intended for there to be an intimate relationship between a man
and a woman. He also established the only institution (marriage) where that sexual relationship is
to be enjoyed (I Corinthians 7:1-5). What about those who engage in sex outside the marriage?
They simply cheapen that which God intended to be a wonderful part of the husband wife
relationship. They also commit the sin of fornication, and Unrepented of, that sin will condemn
the soul (I Corinthians 6:9-10; Galatians 5:19-21).
Beloved, if the moral decline of this country is to be stemmed, it will be because people pick up
the word of God and allow it (as God intended) to be the moral standard (Jeremiah 22:29).
Righteousness will exalt a nation (Proverbs 14:34).
