Discourse Community Presentations
Each student should give a 7-10 minute presentation on a topic from his or her field. An analysis of the
lecture you found from your discourse community should be used to guide the language use and genre
of this presentation. Components of this presentation should be submitted according to the following
schedule:
1. Completed presentation transcript: (Thursday, September 16, online)
2. Completed presentation outline: (Monday, September 20, Nouf’s due on Tuesday)
3. In-class presentations begin Tuesday, September 21

transcribe the entire presentation. A sample of 10 minutes is likely sufficient for this project.
2. Analyze the transcript for use of academic vocabulary, sentence structure, discourse markers,
and genre.
3. Use your analysis to plan your presentation. Your presentation should resemble the
presentation you analyzed in terms of language use and genre.
