Think Summer…
Summer is a critical time for the
transition from first grade to
second grade. Please begin to
think about ways that you can
ensure that your child is reading,
writing, and practicing math skills
during the summer months. It will
be crucial for them as they move
into the next grade.
Homework
Reading: Continue to read every day. At this
point in the year, students should be reading
about 25 minutes each night.
Spelling: Please complete the sorts with
students each day. It allows your child to see
patterns in words.
Math: Continue to complete Homelinks each
day.
Language Arts…
Our reading skill this week was words with
the Long A sound. We also learned more
about possessives and adjectives.
We introduced a new poem called
Grandma’s Big Day. We added this to our
poetry collection.
In writing, we focused on using thinking
maps to help us organize our ideas before
writing. We learned about using adjectives
to describe our nouns. We wrote about the
job of a president.
I continued to conference with students to
ensure that they are using CAFÉ strategies
to help improve reading. Please continue to
practice strategies with your child.
Tell Me…
☻What is an adjective?
☻How much is a quarter worth?
This week, we began Unit 6. We
learned about quarters and telling
time to the 5-minute.
Next week, we will complete Unit 6.
We learned more about reading
graphs. We will review the quarter
and telling time.
Health…
This week, we learned about
drugs. We talked about good drugs
versus bad drugs. We also talked
about the effects of drugs.
Star of the Week
A special thank you goes out
to the Damyan family for a job well
done with the daily Star of the
Week activities. The kids enjoyed
learning more about David. Next up
is Summer on February 27th, 2012.
We look forward to learning more
about Summer next week.

Special Requests
Our classroom theme for the carnival is
Nickelodeon. We asks that your donate
Nickelodeon themed items for our class to
have at the carnival. If you need
suggestions, please let me know. Here are a
few ideas: Nickelodeon Character Pencils,
Teddy Bears, Mini-Toys etc.) Hopefully, we
are able to get a lot of donations for our
basket. Money raised for the basket will go
to the school.
Continue to donate to our Prize Box. If you
are at a local department store, feel free to
pick some prizes for our box.
Have a great weekend!
