I am really excited to meet with you to talk about your child’s progress and make plans for the remainder of the school year. Thank you for the submissions of the Mid-Year Evaluations. These will be very helpful as we prepare for the remainder of the school year. Father of the Year essays are due to school. I will extend the date to Monday, but essays they must be in by Monday in order for students to be considered for the contest. Mark Your Calendars... Please begin to think about ways that you can ensure that your child is reading, writing, and practicing math skills during the summer months. It will be crucial for them as they move into the next grade. Homework Reading: Continue to read every day. At this point in the year, students should be reading about 25 minutes each night. Spelling: Please complete the sorts with students each day. It allows your child to see patterns in words. Math: Continue to complete Homelinks each day. Language Arts… Our reading skill this week was words with the Long A sound. We also learned more about possessives and adjectives. We introduced a new poem called Grandma’s Big Day. We added this to our poetry collection. In writing, we focused on using thinking maps to help us organize our ideas before writing. We learned about using adjectives to describe our nouns. We wrote about the job of a president. I continued to conference with students to ensure that they are using CAFÉ strategies to help improve reading. Please continue to practice strategies with your child. Tell Me… ☻What is an adjective? ☻How much is a quarter worth? This week, we began Unit 6. We learned about quarters and telling time to the 5-minute. Next week, we will complete Unit 6. We learned more about reading graphs. We will review the quarter and telling time. Health… This week, we learned about drugs. We talked about good drugs versus bad drugs. We also talked about the effects of drugs. Star of the Week A special thank you goes out to the Damyan family for a job well done with the daily Star of the Week activities. The kids enjoyed learning more about David. Next up is Summer on February 27th, 2012. We look forward to learning more about Summer next week. Hallway and Book Nook Readers Book Nook Feb 24th- Jody Hallway Readers March 1st- Jody Special Requests Our classroom theme for the carnival is Nickelodeon. We asks that your donate Nickelodeon themed items for our class to have at the carnival. If you need suggestions, please let me know. Here are a few ideas: Nickelodeon Character Pencils, Teddy Bears, Mini-Toys etc.) Hopefully, we are able to get a lot of donations for our basket. Money raised for the basket will go to the school.
