He impersonated Ernest the ‘brother’ of Jack so that he can satisfy his

very well that Jack did not have a brother. (134)

invented a younger brother Ernest who lives in town and gets into dread
scrapes, giving Jack an excuse to go to town as often as he likes. (54)
He is in love with Gwendolen and intends to marry her. (48)
He is willing to be christened as Ernest because Gwendolen wants to
marry a man named Ernest. (64)

He is persuaded by Cecily to forgive Algy who has intruded into his
