FS 2011 PIK Theaterkurs: The Importance of Being Earnest http://kfrclasses.pbworks.com/importance H-J Perino Michael Rutman February 7th 2011 Re: Our first session on February 28th 2011: Auditions Dear Project Group, I enjoyed meeting some of you last week and I hope to meet the remaining members of the project class on February 28th. We then begin our project in earnest (!) Time is short, as you can imagine. In the first session we will have auditions. That is to say, those of you who would like to have a role in the play, will read some scenes for us. Choose the role or roles you would be interested in from the list below and prepare for reading. Note: this ‘casting session’ is so that we can hear your voice, match people and so on. Mr Perino and I will make the final decision after this first session. So that we have some idea of who is going to audition, please fill in the form below and hand it in before February 11th i.e. before the sports holidays. As we are a small group (in theatre terms), we will all be expected to do a lot besides acting (lighting, sound, costumes, publicity etc.) so there is enough for everyone to do! I have already given everybody some ‘homework’ and here it is again: 1) Read the play again and make notes about each character (just adjectives / short phrases are enough, for example: ‘Miss Prism: spinsterish school-teacher, rather bossy, romantic when she was younger, absent-minded etc.’) This will help us with the characterisation. 2) What kind of society do these people live in? (A list again of things you have noticed: ‘speaking the truth is not so common, people pay lip-service to religion, names are important, they live in an ‘age of surfaces’, money is important …’) 3) Find out 5 facts about Oscar Fingal O’Flaherty Wills Wilde’s life. Extra points if you find out something the others don’t know! 4) The acting text will appear on the PBworks (kfr) platform: http://kfrclasses.pbworks.com/importance . Please download this for our future sessions. Remember to look at the platform at regular intervals for updates. ‘All art is quite useless’ – O. Wilde. He didn’t mean it, of course. Or did he? Please fill in the sheet below and return to Mr Perino before February 11th. Many thanks. Best wishes and have a great holiday, Michael Rutman Audition sheet.
