Tuesday: Read “A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning” on pages 1093-94. Write a one-page
analysis using class notes.
Thursday: Complete Unit 2 in your Vocabulary W.B. Using Donne’s “Holy Sonnet 10,”
answer the questions posed on the handout (graphic organizer).
Week of 9/23-9/27:
Tuesday: Read “The Relic” on page 1098. Using notes and materials provided to you, write
an analysis of the poem.
Thursday: Study for Vocabulary Quiz – Unit 2.
Friday: Read “The Canonization” and write an analysis of the poem.

Tuesday: Finish answering the 3 discussion questions from class.

Tuesday: What do you think the narrator seems to think about the Wife of Bath? Is she
admirable? Ridiculous? Attractive? Repulsive? Explore the notion that we see her in a dual
perspective, both social moral. How does she measure up to moral standards?
Thursday: Continue reading the Wife of Bath Prologue until line 76.
Friday: Respond to excerpt provided on remarriage from St. Jerome: From “On the Song of
Songs.”
Week of 10/14-10/18:
Tuesday: Write a response based on the reading of lines 77-120.

Research Paper Topics:
1. The power of feminism/women in The Wife of Bath Prologue and Tale.
2. The views of marriage expressed in both The Wife Prologue and Tale.
3. Some readers have found it strange that the Wife of Bath tells a stylized Romance after
her racy and realistic Prologue. Make clear your own views on this point, referring in detail
to both the Wife of Bath's Prologue and her Tale.
In your research paper, use no less than 2 outside sources to support your thesis.
Your research paper should be 2-3 pages long.
