FIGHTING IN YOUTH HOCKEY GAMES
Reflecting a recommendation of the GBJHA Coaching Staff, which was approved
unanimously by the GBJHA Board of Directors at its November 9, 1987 meeting, the
following policy is effective immediately:
In order to strongly discourage any fighting in GBJHA games, any GBJHA player, whether
he instigates or retaliates in a fight and is thereupon thrown out of the game, will be
suspended for a period of seven (7) days for his first offense, fourteen (14) days for his
second offense, twenty-one (21) days for his third offense and indefinitely pending a
complete review by the GBJHA Board of Directors and Coaching Staff for his fourth
offense.
Furthermore, in order to ensure fairness and non-partiality in these situations, the
President of GBJHA will appoint a committee to review any appeals by players and parents
should this situation arise. The standing Disciplinary Review Committee will be approved
by the GBJHA Board of Directors and run until completion of the program year in which
it is appointed.
It is not the intention of the GBJHA Board or Coaching Staff to single out or remove
players from games and the program. The intention of this policy is to protect and
maintain the high standards and excellent sportsmanship that the GBJHA program has
fostered over the past twenty years.
The GBJHA Board and Coaching Staff intends to periodically review its experience with
this new policy and to take whatever additional and potentially more stringent actions may
be necessary to protect the integrity and reputation of the GBJHA program.
