Sherlock Holmes essay Sherlock Holmes made the wrong decision to let James Ryder, the person who stole the carbuncle, get away. The story was about a person who stole the carbuncle of the Countess, and Sherlock solved the crime. That caused another person, John Horner, to experience a hard time. Also, it proves that Sherlock has not lived up to his resposibility as a detective, he should have turned in James Ryder to the police and told them that he stole the carbunlce. John Horner was there right before it was found that the blue cabuncle was stolen. It made sense to everybody that John Horner stole it, and after his trial in the court, he would have to serve seven years in prison. Imagine you are accused of stealing the carbuncle. How would you feel? I imagine that you would feel very angry if they accused you of stealing something. Even if you had stolen something before, that does not mean that you are untrustworthy. Therefore, John Horner was mistreated. This is part of the proof that Sherlock Holmes made the wrong decision to let him go. Sherlock Holmes has not lived to the resposibility as a detective because detectives are supposed to solve crimes and turn in the criminal. They should absolutely never let the criminal go even though they say that they would never do it again, or when Sherlock Holmes could sense that he was too afraid to do it again. You should be very careful when somebody asks you for something. You can never trust a person after he or she has commited a crime. Imagine that you are the person that stole the blue carbuncle, and you are cught by Sherlock Holmes. You are on your knees begging for him to have mercy and he tells you to get out. By doing this, he has only helped one person in London rather than the many people that were searching for the stolen stone. Sherlock Holmes should not have let James Ryder get away because he tried to steal something. It is law that if somebody commits a crime, the criminal must go to jail. That being the law, Sherlock Holmes clearly broke the law by letting the criminal get away just because he was scared. If anyone does something bad, they should be punished. Therfore, Not only should James Ryder be punished, Sherlock Holmes should also be punished.
