Devon Buchholtz "About Animal Testing : Humane Society International." Humane Society International. N.p., n.d. Web. 29 Oct. 2014. This article first stated what the definition of animal testing is. There was a list of many animal procedures that are performed regularly. The author then explained how many animals and which species are used for testing. The next part of the article explained why the author believed that animal testing is wrong. Alternatives and other options were presented other than using animals for medical progress. The accuracy of animal testing was also questioned in the article. I think that this article was presented really well. The author gave a lot of background information about animal testing and steps for certain procedures performed on animals. The author then explained why he or she thought animal testing was wrong, explained alternatives, and if animal testing is necessary. The author did not seem bias but supported his/her opinion by stating facts from studies. The author also used counter arguments to help his opinion and facts stronger. I plan to use a lot of information from this article for my argumentative essay. This article covers all three of my main points, animal testing is cruel and morally wrong, there are better alternatives to animal testing and animal testing is not always accurate. There are a ton of facts that were stated from previous years of animal testing and studies. The author used some counter arguments to support his opinion. I plan on using counter arguments in my argumentative paper to make my point stronger. Rowan, Andrew. "New Technologies Could Eliminate the Need for Animal Experimentation." Animal Experimentation. Ed. Susan C. Hunnicutt. Detroit: Greenhaven Press, 2013. At Issue. Rpt. from "Avoiding Animal Testing: Advances in Cell-Culture Technologies are Paving the Way to the Complete Elimination of Animals from the Laboratory." The Scientist (Nov.-Dec. 2011). Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 28 Oct. 2014. The article explained why animal testing should be eliminated. The author, Andrew Rowan, presented information of how there has been a huge decline in animal testing over the past decade. He stated how new technologies are being made and are helping in the decrease of testing on animals. Also, he stated what he hopes will happen in the future with animal testing. The article was presented in a poorly manner. I felt that the author, Andrew Rowan, had a biased opinion based on his job as chief executive officer of Human Society International. The author stated more about what he hopes will happen in the future than facts about animal testing from past studies. He presented information regarding new technologies by listing them. The list is helpful for one of my points that I will be stating. However, the author did not explain each of the techniques and technologies in detail. I will not be using a lot of information from this article in my paper. I am going to use the list of new technologies that have been replacing animal testing and a fact stating how much animal testing has declined in the past years. The list of new technologies can support that there are new and more accurate techniques for testing other than animal testing. The other information in the article is irrelevant to my paper. In my argumentative essay, I want to focus on using significant facts and details about animal testing rather than just focusing on the future. Wright, George, and Steve Hoagland. "Counterpoint: Animal Testing Is Cruel And Immoral Regardless Of The Benefits Associated With It." Points Of View: Animal Experimentation (2014): 3. Points of View Reference Center. Web. 30 Oct. 2014. The article “Counterpoint: Animal Testing Is Cruel And Immoral Regardless Of The Benefits Associated With It” stated how animal testing should not be allowed because it is cruel and not morally correct. The article explained the difference between the science aspect and the moral aspect of animal testing. The authors stated how humans often take advantage of their ability to dominate over other species. It also explained how animals and humans are similar physically, mentally, and emotionally. Even though animals can not talk and speak the same language as humans, they are very similar and have feelings too. This article was presented in an excellent manner. The authors, Wright and Hoagland, presented new ideas to the reader through questions. Presenting information in this way made me really think about what they were saying and their opinion of the topic. I believe that they should have used more facts to support their ideas. This article made me think and connect humans and animals, but it would have been stronger if it had more facts. I plan to use this source for my argumentative paper. One major point I want to make and get across is that animal testing is morally wrong and cruel. This article provides great points that prove why animal testing should not be allowed because of how cruel it is to animals. I am going to use information from this article to suggest ideas and present new information to the reader that they may have not thought about. I want to really show the connection between humans and animals. I do believe that I will need to find another article that has facts that can strongly support their questions and ideas.
