Project Ideas for Coming of Age Lit Circles
(everybody must present his/her project!)
1. Create a timeline of your own life as you’ve grown. Highlight
at least twenty events. Have fun with it; stick on pictures and
mementos near the appropriate highlights.
2. Create a scrapbook of your life. 20 pages, 8x10 size minimum
3. Create a 3-paneled presentation with typed text and photos on
the following topic: What is it like to come of age in a culture
different from your own?
4. From our discussions, what are the lessons often learned as we
come of age? Find a creative way to display this.
5. Research one coming of age ritual/right of passage and create a
3-paneled presentation with typed text and photos.
6. Gather 10 songs about growing up and burn a cd or make an
iPod playlist. Site the relevance of each song on a typed sheet.
7. Gather short clips from 5 coming of age movies and burn a
dvd. Include an accompanying paper examining their
relevance.
8. Create 10 original poems on this topic. You’ll share 3 with the
class. Turn all 10 in together as a book.
9. Compile 15 poems on this topic. You’ll share 5 with the class.
Turn all 15 in together as a book.
10.Create a thoughtful collage on coming of age. It must be
standard poster board size! Include a paper explaining five of the
images you chose.
11.Create an original piece of art displaying your interpretation of
this theme. Include a paper explaining its relevance.
12. Create a standard poster board sized postcard of an
important location from your novel. Write a short letter on the
back from one character in your book to someone else in the
book.
