During these hard economic times people have thought the American Dream to be “impossible” or “dead”, but I am here to prove that wrong. I believe that the American Dream is attainable, but it will take hard work and sacrifice in order to achieve it. Throughout America’s history many people have doubted that the American Dream is still alive and time and time again it has survived. The main reason why it will never die is its purpose; the American Dream is the dream of an individual who thinks this country holds opportunities for a better life. Therefore you cannot say that it’s dead or unattainable. The American Dream from today is much different from the American Dream in the past. Before we look at what the American Dream would be like in the past let’s look at what we define the American Dream now. The American Dream has always been about a person’s dream and how they can achieve it. Now let’s look at the American Dream in the past; in the 1930s-1950s the American Dream consisted of having a family and to supply and take care of them. It is basically about conforming to social normality and having an average good life. As you can see that the American Dream from the past and the American Dream today are two different things. The American Dream plays a big role in today’s society. Everything you do has reason, right? That is how the American Dream works. If you have a goal that you are trying to accomplish you are going to have to take a different route to complete that goal compared to others. In order to accomplish that goal I am going study really hard and save up money from work to pay for college. Your goal may be completely different but that’s what is great about the American Dream, there is a lot of variety with it. The American Dream is still as attainable in today’s society as it has ever been in the history of the United States. Even with the hard economic times we are facing it will just take more hard work and sacrifice in order to attain it. So go out there, achieve your dream and don’t let anyone or anything stop you. If you fall, get back up and continue to go after it. Be the difference you want to see. That is what the American Dream is all about.
