Orientation Workshop Feedback
What is the tie between diverse students and multimodal?
for those who are not technologially savvy, how to implement
with the other assignmetn the students can go to the writing center...can they help
support our students? student technology center?
when you implement tech, how do you deal with students varying levels of access
how much is voice difference and diversity tied to outcomes? How do we assess the
products? multiple examples? Text analysis? how do we tie that into the 32 page
requirement? At what point, in the class, should multimodal projects be incorporated?
Ad analysis
Discourse community analysis essay--emphasize personal literacy, understanding what
a discourse community is through their own experience--do we have time to present
that in class? you could split them up into small groups? workshop time?
Discourse communities in groups--so, the whole project! multimodal in their
presentations, use multiple genres (discourse communities = multimodal)
Erin--tried the comic (comic building software) so a double whammy with personal
literacy and multi-modality
--poetry projects, use whatever mode or method students want--use youtube clips, etc.
students build a websites--whole class projects foster more student risk
individual responses to paper to help shape their writing into academic discourse...
would it be strange to ask students about their primary dialects?
Student choice in discourse community analysis?
What can we do about our teacher ethos? How can we mitigate our own assumptions,
and our students assumptions of us?
How can we be aware of exoticizing our students or even a particular discourse
community?
Genre critique--how do different strategies and choices work in writing?
Identity can be a doorway into students identifying themselves as experts in a particular
way?
Authentic voice? How could you even begin to judge authenticity?
Reflection? Peoples personal discourse communities need not be too stressed if you
integrate choice in the course...using mini reflections to focus on the students own
papers, or aspects of their own papers
resources--it would be nice to have access to student examples of, say, discourse
community analysis?
