In the book, Animal Farm by George Orwell, Orwell satirizes Socialism and how Stalin
ran his government in the early twentieth century. The way the government is run on the
farm mimics that of Russia. In the Communist Mainfesto the plan was explained that the
capitalistic way the government was being ran at the time had many flaws in it and the
workers wanted to overthrow and create their own form of government. This same idea
was brought out in the beginning of the book when Old Major gave his speech to all the
farm animals of how they should overthrow the humans that ran the farm. Once the
governments were overthrown there was a parallel between the two because they both
began to decline. This is shown in the book when the farm animals ran out of food to
survive. Also in both Russia and the farm the living conditions were supposed to get
better after the overthrowing of the government but they ended up getting worse.
