ABSTRACT
The objective of the thesis was (note use of imperfect tense) to find out/discover/explore
if/whether job characteristics appeared at work and how they affected employees’ job
motivation. The intention/purpose was to study how job design methods would improve job
characteristics at a work place. Another intention was to find out if there was willingness for
job redesign methods among the sales personnel/staff/employees of the case company.
(Paragraph #1 states your thesis objectives and research problem)
The theoretical framework was based on literature about human resource development, job
design and job motivation (name the authors of the literature, particularly if they are leaders
in the field). (Paragraph #2 states your conceptual framework)
The study (note, NOT research) was carried out/conducted/executed in the form of a
printed questionnaire, which was sent to sales personnel of the target company. Three (write
out numbers less than ten and don’t start a sentence with on a number, but OK if
written out) stores out of nine were raffled off, and in each of them the questionnaire was
given to the personnel. The analytical approach/research methodology was quantitative. In
addition, data were gathered/collected through interviews with the CEO of the company to
draw comparisons between the opinions of the employees and those of the employer. The
interviews were analyzed quantitatively. (Paragraph #3 describes your methodology)
The results/findings revealed/showed/indicated that, in their work, the sales personnel
experienced characteristics which were prerequisites for work motivation, such as
independence, responsibility and diversity. The quality and lack of feedback and support
appeared/seemed to be major shortcomings in the company. The results also
indicated/suggested how important it was to consider differences between individuals and
redesign jobs after a developmental discussion. (Paragraph #4 describes your data and
findings)
In conclusion/In sum, there might be room for job redesign in the company. The most useful
method/approach/means could be job enlargement. By combining several tasks, the work
itself would thus (note that this word reinforces the consequence of some action,
therefore could also be used) become more diverse. Internal motivation methods would
increase the level of commitment by the personnel, and therefore/thereby, attract a more
efficient workforce to the company. (Paragraph #5 contains your research conclusions)
