Dear Caretaker, This year your eighth grade student is learning American History. Students learn about our nation’s beginnings and follow it’s history up to World War I. This trimester we are studying America’s colonial history, the Declaration of Independence and the Revolutionary War. One way I would like to teach the class about the American Revolution and the colonial era is by showing selected scenes from The Patriot. I believe the movie The Patriot starring Mel Gibson has many wonderful things to offer regarding the American Revolution. The settings, costumes and characters all portray what life was like during the American Revolution. As student’s watch they will gain an understanding of people’s feelings as they prepared to fight for liberty. I would like to show scenes from this movie and a special feature about the movie’s creation and historical accuracy. The Patriot is rated R and has some graphic war scenes. I have previewed the movie, scene by scene and know which scenes contain inappropriate content. I will not show these scenes. We will not watch the entire movie and will watch only the beginning of the battle recreations. Please let me know if you have any concerns about your child watching scenes from this movie. Sign below to show that you have read this note and give permission for your 8th grade student to view scenes from The Patriot. Thank You, Mr. Sweitzer 532-1419x146 I allow my student to watch selected scenes from The Patriot Adult Signature ____________________________ Student Name ______________________________
