Shannon ABC’s mission is to contribute to and
improve the competitiveness of Irish companies in
the Biotech, Food and Life Science Industries.
Shannon ABC has developed significant expertise in
bioresources - detection, identification,
characterisation and valorisation - and collaborates
with industry and other research centres in order to
deliver this expertise in applied settings.

Plant, animal, marine and microbial resources are
‘mined’ for compounds of importance to the food,
pharmaceutical, healthcare, cosmetic,
biopharmaceutical, agriculture, environmental,
biotechnology sectors, and more.
Research at IMaR focuses on the strategic
integration of both hardware and software:
Mechanical and Electronic Hardware, Robotics,
RFID, Internet of Things (IoT), Data Analytics,
Artificial Intelligence and Sensor Technologies in
the form of intelligent systems development.

IMaR specialises in the implementation of
automatic identification technologies such as RFID
to deliver supply chain/logistical efficiencies. In
addition, IMaR focuses on the integration of IoT
technologies and infrastructures and data analytics
to increase production throughputs, decrease cycle
times, optimising product quality and reduce costs
for industry partners, which the key drivers of
IMaRs research agenda.
CEED - Centre for
Entrepreneurship and
Enterprise Development
IMaR exploits the use of smart mechatronics via
sensor integration, precision instrumentation,
robotics and automation technology to enhance
process automation, reduce lead times and
ultimately deliver significant cost reductions to our
industry partners in the manufacturing.
CEED is recognised as a global premier centre for
the development of entrepreneurship and
enterprise development in the education and
business communities. CEED’s research agenda has
a particular focus on research into entrepreneurial
learning, incubation and new venture creation and
sustainability.
The centre practices a unique strategic policy of
seamless integration between the Institute and the
wider commercial and community sectors across
the region. In working to achieve its aims, the
following shared values guide the centre’s
behaviour and decision-making:

economic life of our localities, regionally, nationally
and globally at an applied and basic research level.
•Participation: by both staff and participants, in our
communal and intellectual life, and our decisionmaking processes; recognising our mutual

Researchers at the Irish Academy of Hospitality and
Tourism (IAHT) engage in applied research of direct
relevance to the tourism and hospitality sectors in
order to further enhance Ireland as a high-quality
and competitive world class tourism destination.
The IAHT is involved in three pillars of activity:
international collaboration, applied research and
continuous professional development. The IAHT
also provides continuous professional development
programmes of specific practical application to the
industry it serves, e.g. the IAHT is the sole provider
of the National Trainee Hotel Manager Programme
delivered through an innovative blended learning
approach, incorporating traditional classroom
learning with work-based learning and on-line
classes.
The Chair uses education, training and research to
advance towards more inclusive societies using PE,
sport, fitness and recreation as conduits to social
justice. Some of the major challenges of modern
times are addressed by the Chair activities including
healthy and active aging and tackling societal
challenges such as inclusion and wellbeing. The
Chair extends across such disciplines as education
and training, adapted physical activity, social
sciences, social entrepreneurship, pedagogy,
assistive technologies, ICT, policy and development
work. The establishment of the Chair commits the
Institute to working closely with UNESCO to
advance policy and practice in the field and to
engage in collaborative education, training and
research activities with multi-disciplinary partners
globally to advance knowledge and practice.
