Romeo and Juliet
Project
Choose ONE project from the list below.
Projects will be graded on correctness, eye appeal and neatness, completeness, creativity and the
amount of time dedicated to complete the project. If you choose a project that requires written
work, the written work MUST be TYPED.
Follow all directions for each project.
1. Design and sew a minimum of three costumes for characters in the play. Dress dolls in
the costumes and label each costume according to character, act, and scene. Base the
costume designs on research. Attach a one-page paper to the project that includes an
explanation of each costume.
2. Design five scenes from Romeo and Juliet. Display the scenes on a poster, on several
posters, or in shadow boxes. Clearly label each scene according to scene and act.
Arrange the scenes in chronological order. Include an explanation of each scene. Each
explanation must be a minimum of one-half page in length. Base the information about
setting and costume on research.
3. Select a scene with a minimum of four characters from the play. Make puppets to
represent all the characters in the scene. Puppets may be made out of brown paper bags,
construction paper, cloth, felt-tip markers, and other household items. On a poster, draw
the background that would be used for the puppet show. Write a one-page paper that
includes the act and scene numbers of the selected scene, a detailed summary of the
scene, and an explanation of why you designed the puppets to look the way they look.
Present the show to the class. Put feeling and expression and vocal variety into the
presentation.
4. Individual performance. Memorize and perform two or three monologue/soliloquies.
Type a one to two-page paper explaining why these lines are important and explicate the
lines(tell what the lines mean).
5. Write ten diary entries (1/2 paged typed minimum) that one of the main characters of the
story might have kept during the events that happened in the story. Remember thoughts
and feelings are important, NOT JUST SUMMARY. Place entries in a diary that looks like
the character would’ve created it.
6. Cast real actors to play the roles of the characters in Romeo and Juliet. Carefully consider
who would be qualified to play each part. Include pictures of these actors. You need to
explain your selection in connection to the character. Consider the real connections your
cast selections have to the play. Choose at least ten characters.
7. Design a new book jacket for the play. Make sure to include all of the elements that are
on the jacket of the book. I STRONGLY suggest looking at a book while you do this.
Make sure to include a synopsis on the back cover.
8. Design a comic book or an illustrated children’s book that tells the story of Romeo and
Juliet. You may use the words of Shakespeare, or you may write and illustrate a more
modern version of the story. Type a one-to two-page paper which explains why you
chose to represent things the way you did. Minimum number of pages for book: 20.
9. Write a full-length song(2-3 minutes) about Romeo and Juliet. Display the words of the
song on a poster or scroll. Cannot be instrumental, nor can it be all refrain. Sing the song
to the class. Cannot contain explicit lyrics, imagery or innuendo.
10. Create a soundtrack for Romeo and Juliet. You must have at least 15 songs on your
CD/MP3 list (I would prefer a CD if possible) and you must have the title and the
author. You must also have an explanation of why you chose the song and what part of
the play it would fit.
11. In a group of three or more, make a video in which you act out two scenes from the play.
You need to create a new version of the text(modern words, kung-fu style, old western
style, country style, etc.) Find creative ways to recreate the scenes we have read
about(bloody battles, balcony love scene, a tomb full of bodies, etc.). You must also write
a one page paper in which you explain why you chose the scene you did and the
reasoning’s behind your recreation.

2. Romeo and Juliet’s first dance/kiss(pp.751-753)
3. Balcony Scene (pp. 759-766)
4. Romeo/Tybalt/Mercutio Fight (pp. 784-788)
5. Romeo goes to Juliet’s tomb and drinks poison (pp. 838-841)
6. Juliet wakes up and stabs herself (pp. 842-847)
You must do one of the following along with your project.
12. Write a poem from Romeo to Juliet(or Juliet to Romeo) after he saw her at the
feast/party. Must be a minimum of 25 lines. It must have a predictable rhyme scheme,
a simile, and a metaphor. Include specific details from the play.
13. Write a letter from Juliet to her parents(after their fight) describing how she feels. Must
be one and a half pages typed. Include specific details from the play.
14. Write a letter from Romeo to Juliet(or from Juliet to Romeo) after he was banished from
Verona. It must be one and a half pages typed. Include specific details from the play.
