John Hanson Community School: The water game 3 The Water Game The average person in the U.K. uses 150 litres of water per day. In this game it is Saturday at the Waters family’s house. You must help them to use water wisely as they go through their day. Add up how much water they use after each task and see how much water you can save them. Mr and Mrs Waters have three children. With five people in the house they use about 750 litres of water a day. Help them to use less. The cards will give you useful information. Saturday Morning 1. 2. Each member of the family must get up, have a wash and clean their teeth. Choose the two cards that will save them water. Remember to multiply these amounts of water by five as there are five people in the family. All members of the family go to the toilet in the morning. They all must flush the toilet afterwards. How can the Waters family cut down on their water usage? You can use a card or use some ideas of your own. Mrs Waters hates washing the dishes and would like a dishwasher. Mr Waters plays a lot of sport and will often put a half load of sports clothes into the washing machine. The family need to do two full loads of washing a day. How can you save water by washing wisely? The children earn pocket money by washing the two family cars and watering the garden. They want to earn lots of money but they are only allowed to use 100 litres of water to do everything. Can you help them to do this? Remember to add this onto your total and explain how you will do it. The family all like to drink chilled water. Decide how much each member is allowed to drink in one day and choose a card to help them. Remember, drinking water is something you should not cut down on as it is good for you. The family have two taps in the house that need fixing. They drip constantly. Find a card that will stop this wasted water. Bed Time 9. Mr Waters has a shower every evening.
