The princess and the soldier

公 主 和 士 兵
A king has a very beautiful daughter.
yǒu yí gè guó wáng tā yǒu yí gè hěn měi de nǚ ér
有 一 个 国 王 。 他 有 一 个 很 美 的 女 儿。
The princess is very proud and arrogant.
zhè ge gōng zhǔ hěn jiāo ào zì dà
这 个 公 主 很 骄 傲， 自 大。
She knows that she is beautiful.
tā zhī dào zì jǐ hěn měi
他 知 道 自己 很 美。
The king wants his daughter to marry.
guó wáng yào tā de nǚ ér jié hūn
国 王 要 他的女儿 结 婚。
The princess does not like anyone.
dàn shì gōng zhǔ shuí dōu bú xǐ huān
但 是 公 主 谁 都 不喜 欢 。
One day a soldier sees the princess and he falls in love with her.

He asks her to marry him.

The princess says: “If you wait 40 days and 40 nights under my window, and look up

公 主 说 ：如 果 你 在 我 的 窗 户 下 等 我， 看 着 我 四 十 at
me, then I will marry you”
tiān sì shí yè wǒ jiù jià gěi nǐ
. 天 四 十 夜，我 就 嫁 给 你。
So the soldier waits under the window.

He waits there in the heat and the cold.
