Renew the Country Renewable energy is defined as energy that comes from natural resources. Although the technology is available, the issue is that it is not explored enough. With rising gas prices, and frightened consumers, more must be done to encourage the research of renewable energy sources. For alternative fuel powered items, incentives are simply not large enough, and consumers are hesitant. The lack of interest is what creates the unpredictable amount of problems for generations to come, as the President, it is important for you to realize the importance of this issue. When presented with the fact that our environment is decaying due to our energy and fuel waste, many choose to look the other way. The thoughtful citizen is inclined to care about the environment, considering they live in it daily. The environment is important to take care of, just as a house or a family needs proper care. When something needs to be fixed in a home, such as air conditioning, it is fixed immediately, however when dealing with the environment, that is not the case. People continually to harm the environment even when it is evident that there is a problem with the quality of the environment. Instead of striving to conserve fuel in cars, many choose to ignore the fact that they are not expendable resources; there is an end to the use of these products. It is not ethical to waste such products that are so important to modern life, when other alternatives are available. Consider future generations who suffer from the actions we make today. One must think about the greater picture, it is selfish to prepare our children for failure. Without further exploration of alternative fuel sources, future generations will live a less prosperous life. They will have to fend for themselves against astronomical gas prices, due to the future rarity of oil, and there will be uncontrollable amounts of nuclear waste with not enough places to store it. They could also face problems due to the depletion of the ozone and the production of carbon dioxide that is direct effect of the emissions of cars and factories. It is inevitable that eventually the sources held so dearly to Americans, such as oil, coal, and natural gas, will be gone before we know it. Future generations’ way of life will be much harder without the expansion of alternative fuel research. Alternative fuels have seen an increase in interest in the past few years, but at the rate that the environment is declining in quality and resources are depleting, the field is not growing rapidly enough. More needs to be done to encourage the research and funding of alternative fuel. Many consumers shy away from energy efficient cars or are hesitant to use items such as solar panels to heat their water, both due to the fairly steep cost. More funding could contribute to the making and perfecting of these alternative fueled machines, decreasing price and increasing accessibility. Incentives are another solution to consumers hesitance toward purchasing such items. Even though consumers can actually save money by purchasing the alternatively fueled products, it is not an apparent incentive. The current motivational prizes are comparatively weak compared to the positive impact on the environment made with the reduction of their emissions. In addition, if charging stations were funded and installed more frequently, there could be an increase in the purchase of electric cars. Tax breaks are an example of an incentive for those who choose to power houses or factories with a renewable source, even if it is only a partial break, it makes the idea more attractive to consumers. It should not be a matter of money that we base the decision to keep the environment healthy. It is not fair to expend the resources of fuel available to us, just because we can. If no further progress than has been made on alternative fuels, generations will die out. If research and installment of alternative fuels is not practiced now it will be too late for future generations, it is not right to leave future generations to pick up all the pieces left behind by our generation. The time is now to act, there are alternative fuels powering a large range of devices and it is up to the consumer to make these items a standard. If the consumers show interest, due to incentive or otherwise, the companies will produce products. The demand for alternative fuel research and products must increase in order for there to be a greater supply and accessibility. A tough economy should not be stopping consumers from making a choice that will impact generations ahead of them for the better, and every consumer’s conscious decision to use alternatively powered items helps future generations out tremendously.
