For case reports, the abstract should consist of one short paragraph with no subsections. Methods: Avoid abbreviations in the abstract, except for very well-known ones, such as ECG. Results: Summarise the main findings of the study. Conclusions: An abstract is only required for original research papers and case reports. Review articles and editorials do not need an abstract. If in doubt, consult the HJC editorial staff. 2 The introduction should describe the purpose of the study and its relation to previous work in the field; it should not include extensive review of the literature.1 Methods These should be concise, but sufficiently detailed to permit repetition by other investigators. Study population Patients Use subheadings as necessary to facilitate the reader’s understanding. Controls It should rarely be necessary to use more than three levels of heading.
