Double-entry Journal Assignment for Pride and Prejudice
As your read the novel, keep a double-entry journal. Your journal will be due the date
the novel is due. You should have a total of 12 entries. To insure that you have entries
from throughout the book, have four entries from each volume.
Text
1. Write the sentence(s) from the text
in this space. I prefer that you
choose short passages of a few
sentences for close analysis.
Include the page number from the
text in parentheses at the end of the
passage.
2. You may include one entry on a
page or you may continue down the
page.
3. You may type your journal if you
prefer. Handwriting is acceptable,
but it must be neat.
Response—journal entry
1. Briefly note the circumstances in the
plot. Tell what happened just before and
just after the text you have written in the
left column.
2. Write a response to the entry. Share
what prompted you to include it or why
you feel it is noteworthy. Discuss the
significance of this quote to the rest of
the work.
3. Write a personal response to this
passage. How does this quote affect
you emotionally?
